Yup, trim tag looked good to me too Bill, but as soon as I saw the interior and the pedal I was like wait a minute...
|
I have a 71 Van Nuys built Z/28 it does not have a floor mounted pedal.
|
I was told all 70-71 Z/28's should have this floor mount pedal?
http://my1970z28.com/COPO/images/gas_pedal.jpg Maybe someone with more knowledge can elaborate on 71's, but I have always known the 70 Z/28 to have the floor mount on any real one I have seen or owned? |
The CAMARO Nationals LEGENDS category has had only a couple of 71 Z-28's go through
its judging system. I have never seen or read of a 71 Z28 w/o the Floor Mounted Pedal. This above EBAY Camaro is 04D, so not close to 72 changeover. It would be interesting to see floorpan from below too SEE if metal has been pierced for floor mount ???? Other than that I cant explain this standard gas pedal 71 Z/28 ???? |
Rusted floorboards?
|
Yeah, neither can I and I rarely mention it. Car is a 1971 4 speed Van Nuys code 43 Citrus green car. 85K miles, old paint, complete but needs everything. Bought it from a flipper in Pomona in 2002. Has all the Z28 stuff and the engine code on the pad is/was correct but was very faint and is now almost gone. Looks like the gas tank has never been down. I'll try putting some pictures up in Members Rides when I can. Did the NCRS thing and got a blank piece of paper back lol. Anything you want to know about please ask. Has a three piece spoiler as well, was a December 1970 build (I think).

"Front alignment 3.5 caster, .5 camber, 1/16 toe in
1970 was the only year with 12 bolt rear end installed in performance 2nd gens, low-back style seat & headrest, header panel had a Chrome "C" on it, emblem used on trunk was "Camaro by Chevrolet", side marker lights did not blink with the signals..." People with severe OCD are people you want to buy cars from :) |

I spy.....if you look close, the original floor mounted gas pedal bracket is still mounted to the toe board, but mostly covered by the floor mat.
|
I asked a question of the seller and here's what he said: "Yes correct and it does have the correct factory floor cleat to hold the correct Z28 only floor mounted gas pedal.
For unknown reasons it was changed sometime before the previous owner purchased the car in the early 80s. Included is a photo of the factory floor mounted gas pedal mount. The Carpet under the floor mount appears to be original too." |

That will be one of the stranger pics to have ever appeared on this subject !!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
The strangest picture is the low mile Z with both pedals installed...that takes the cake.

I called the very pleasant but unknowlegable seller.................
I informed him that trim tag has 713 Interior Blk with White Accents, Custom Cloth (C/C) yet car has 725 Black Custom Cloth Front and 711 Standard Black Back Seat......... He has no idea how/why this got changed ?????? Buying correct 713 Cloth and having sewn/installed might cost $1250 ????? He thinks block was decked with no FLINT mfg code VxxxxCTB He was not aware of Norwood stamping VIN # on Bellhousing Flange and Muncie Case, nor was he aware of 12 Bolt Stampings I have his email and may send him pics of above points where to look. COPO spoiler could be accurate with 04D build date............ Master Cyl Changed to aftermarket (should be 409 casting with bleeders) Need to know about born with eng & trans to conclude possible value |
these Daytona yellow z's had me confused. edited my post
|
wrong car :stupid:
|
Jonesy.....Your post and pics are of a DIFFERENT Yellow 70 Z/28 than this thread.....
THIS thread Z-28 is in San Diego (R/S nose) and other straight bumper yellow 70 Z/28 is in Phoenix area..................... |
Damn, thanks for pointing that out I will delete them.

The seller of the Z28 is a casual friend of mine and I am somewhat familiar with the car. I also have a 70 Z28 so we have discussed them whenever we run into each other; in fact I am supposed to go to the Long Beach Grand Prix with him next weekend. He is a very accomplished vintage racer and has a 3rd Gen Camaro Trans Am car that he runs, so that's why the ad reads like he is selling a race car, and not a vintage car. I was going to suggest he rewrite it to highlight more of the car's originality, than the alignment specs. I believe the car was sold by Jon During Chevrolet in Coronado, Ca., a now defunct dealership. If anybody was interested, I could help facilitate getting specifics on the car but the seller is a solid guy, he just doesn't know the cars in and out. Chris
