Cars-on-line indicates that it is sold! Is this so?

Re: ****1969 Baldwin Motion Camaro****
Great car. GLWS. Another very late 69 Camaro. Invoice dated Feb. 1970. Looks like the original owner was in the US Navy based on the nuclear missile submarine USS Robert E. Lee.

Re: ****1969 Baldwin Motion Camaro****
Remote mirror - not an option you see on a super car everyday! "USS Robert E. Lee" on the protectoplate is pretty cool!! That was some serious change for a sailor to drop on a car back then! . What did the car start life as? 350 SS?

Original owner could have been an officer on the submarine. That sub had a crew of 100 men with 10 of them officers. Car very likely started as an SS L-78. Baldwin would sell the takeout engines or short blocks which is how they kept the price of the BM cars more reasonable. |
Re: ****1969 Baldwin Motion Camaro****
the address on the work order shows NY, NY
a Navy history site says the Robert E. Lee was attached to Submarine Squadron 14 throughout 1969 and 1970 operating out of Holy Loch (U.S. nuclear submarine base at Holy Loch, Scotland) but was on east coast of USA in 1972 1973 I know the car was in CT. a long time and there is a Submarine Base in Groton CT. but not sure if that was part of the car's history |
Re: ****1969 Baldwin Motion Camaro****
Joe that Sounds right. My father was the captain on a nuclear missile submarine during that era. We lived in Groton CT, then moved to Charleston SC, but the sub patrols were out of Holy Loch, Scotland during that time. It was the cold war era with a number of submarines patrolling in that part of the world waiting for the "launch command".
Neat car and I believe its the only auto 69 BM Camaro that still survives. |

Crazy buy
Funny thing talking about the auto, everybody wants a 4 speed. I can bet this car beat ever car it went up against with a 4 speed..Car barks ever gear just driving in drive at slow speeds. Will set off car alarms. LOL.
This will be the last SUPERCAR at this price beside the auto Green Chevelle(real BM). These are not MOTION cars. These are for the true car collectors that wont come around to often in years to come. Very few can say they have the original body & original drivetrain since day1.. With this kind of paperwork. Lots of trade offers, space issues! Car will be sold!! |
Funny, in all these years I was so captivated by the outside of this car and the documentation that I never even noticed that it was an a/t - wouldn't matter to me, if I had the coin I'd own it! What a great car, especially the...everything!
