69 Camaro JL8 Rearend Value
 

Looking for an approx. value of a 69 rearend I pulled out of storage. Its just the bare housing still looking for other parts. Too much stuff. The leaf pads have been cut off but you can still see where they were installed. Has the tabs for the caliper hoses still on it. Dated L208. I've attached a couple photos. Here is some more info figured out since the original posting. The stamping shown above is on the drivers axle tube. i took the photos I originally posted with and iphone late after noon after cleaning out parts all day. After further inspection the next day I saw another set of stampings on the passenger axle tube that were marked out. You can see the location of both stamps compared to the leaf spring perch weld. The pass side one is YQ0110 that they tried to cover up. Must have been changed at assembly is my guess. Its the real deal rearend not "bs". This rearend has been in storage for 30 years and just saw daylight this week. I found what appears to be one axle also. Larry

That is a 7206 JL8 axle.

I have never seen any axle factory stamped on the left side axle tube.

I have never seen axles with the bevel on backside before? course I havent seen a real JL8 rear before either

Ya the last 4 digits of the part number are stamped on the outer hub- 7206

Hello, update for today's hunt. I found the emergency brake cables, dust shields, rotors with E brake's, and the calipers. The things look like very low mileage. Still missing one axle and center section. There is a lot to go through. Any interest in purchasing call me. Thanks, Larry 520-349-2337.

On the axle shaft...the outer part where the wheel center fits around inside the lug nuts, if you look close it says 7206...

I believe they are 13/16" shorter

From a reliable source JL8 axles are 29 11/16" and the stock ones are 30 1/2". Frank is right. Haven't found the second one yet.

Incorrect! stock 12 bolt are not 30 1/2&quot; those would be for second gen Camaro or Chevelle 68-72 I did find this measurement: 67-69 Camaro 12 Bolt = 29 9/16&quot;
I could see how 1/8&quot; could be missed depending on how you measure or who measures them

My bad your right. Just measured a stock set. So back to my original question. With the leaf pads cut off, stamping on both axle tubes as shown, missing one axle, has both rotors, calipers, dust shields, emergency brakes, and the emergency cables what is a fair market value of the rearend. Would somewhere in the 5-7K range be it. Larry

In Wayne Guinn's book &quot;Camaro untold secrets&quot; he states on page 32 that the stock axle length of 30 1/2&quot; had to be shortened to 29 11/16&quot;

WTF did I hijack? I started the thread. Thought someone might have an interest in it. Its been a learning experience discovering the parts. Thought I would offer it here first. It is a rare piece with only 206 installed on cars. Larry

Further to what Don said.... When I stated I believed the JL8 axles were 13/16&quot; shorter, I was drawing from memory on facts from Guinns book.

That does look like a correct jl8 axle and the stamping looks good to me. Although I never saw a rear stamped on wrong side and crossed off ??
Recently sold NOS housing axles brakes backing plates etc for 7500.. Would think this rear would be in the 3.5-5k range.. The other axle would help a lot if you found it...they are like hens teeth

Hello, thank you for your input. Looking at the rear it looks like the guy at assembly messed up by putting YQ on the passenger side then marking it out and just moving over to the drivers side and putting QY with the same date. Just fyi Heartbeat reproduces the axles for 175 each he has them on his web page. Larry

I had a Jl-8 car and atleast 6 rears over the years. That date on your rear would work for a real car although seems a bit early for production, it could work. Might be worth it to buy one axle and have perches rewelded !

Hmmm just seeing this...I dunno what's going on. My &quot;hijack&quot; post was in the &quot;JL8 Stripe-delete '69 Z28&quot; thread when all this discussion about identifying/selling this rearend happened within it. I certainly didn't put it here in this thread, I can assure you.
