Tremendous gratitude to all that have shown an interest in the car and it's history.

Hemmings Motor News Radio just called and told me that the episode featuring The story of N100001 is now the most listened to episode in the history of the radio program at HMN.

Car is getting plenty of press and deservedly so. I remember going rounds with guys on a few forums about the cost to restore it. One was a prominent beloved collector, flipper. They did not seem to understand that cost did not matter. It was historical significance. Not just another flip investment to make money. Just happy to see the car saved and allowed to be seen by car lovers, Chevy lovers, Camaro lovers. Thank You

Amen to that. For a few people it's not always about the bucks.

The HVA is really a neat organization partnered with the Smithsonian if I understand correctly. The 2700 original mile 1922 Oldsmobile Super Sport with Aluminum V8 engine block - I had posted pictures of a couple of years ago which we took from hibernation to driver is owned by Mark Gessler who is closely associated with the HVA.

Re: 1967 Camaro N100001 to be inducted into the NVHR

I remember the Ebay auction how they wanted way too much for the car. Then got into a big debate on another forum with people from this site that said it was a waste of money. I was happy to see it restored. The owner knowing they would put more into it than it was possibly worth. That is where the big debate came. I argued it's historical segnificance outweighed the cost. Sometimes it is not about dollars and cents. Then people lost their minds when they left the roll bar plates in the trunk to help prove it history and leave some character behind. At that point it was seen as not going far enough. Most said it would be a rebody when it was not. Glad it exists just as it is.

Charley Lillard 12-22-2016 11:59 PM

Re: 1967 Camaro N100001 to be inducted into the NVHR

I don't think leaving the roll bar plates in was needed, just document the restoration. A proper restoration would have been better in my opinion. Would you have left the roll bar plates in ?

ds1 12-23-2016 12:29 PM

Re: 1967 Camaro N100001 to be inducted into the NVHR

I had a 69 that I did leave the roll bar plates in. That way any future owner knows what the,car did in its past. My father's 64 GTO convertible has a 1972 Daytona sticker on a quarter window. He left it on. We built the 65 Iris Mist GTO convertible around a water slide on the driver wing that says Motor Trend car of the year. I am going to restore my Z28 to the way the first owner had it. I entertained selling that car because of the way people act on these forums. My car does not have the original drivetrain and never will. So to some my car is worthless or a parts car. If the next owner of F car number 1 wants to remove the plates they can.

Charley Lillard 12-23-2016 12:40 PM

Re: 1967 Camaro N100001 to be inducted into the NVHR

I leave lots of non stock parts on cars also but not the # 1 Camaro that I am restoring back to stock. You never really answered my question. I think people on this forum behave pretty well.

ds1 12-23-2016 01:12 PM

Re: 1967 Camaro N100001 to be inducted into the NVHR

Yes I would have left the plates in. I think people on this forum are great. There are some opinions stronger than others.

iluv69s 12-23-2016 01:19 PM

Re: 1967 Camaro N100001 to be inducted into the NVHR

I agree w Charlie about removing the plates, but that does not detract much from the car or value.. They can be removed...

It is Camaro number 1 !! Congrats on all your efforts!!!

As far as value ?? Did anyone see what the first two firebirds sold for?? I believe this car is worth way more ..and I suspect the resto was better than the firebird restos !!

ds1 12-23-2016 01:30 PM

Re: 1967 Camaro N100001 to be inducted into the NVHR

I agree the value is much more. Did the Firebirds sell? I saw they were going to auction. In the end a car is only worth what someone is willing to pay. I agree the F car was restored in a way more consistent with its original build. It is because of information on a few forums that I am more critical of restoration shows on tv. All of this has been good in improving how we restore our cars. But look at Chicks Z28 restoration and he proves that there is a significant difference between assembly line and NOS. That changed my view on NOS or the divide between new and older NOS parts. Look at how they judged his car in Maryland. It was held to a standard better than new.

Re: 1967 Camaro N100001 to be inducted into the NVHR

ds1, know one on any forum would cause me to think about selling a car. Everyone has their right to their own opinion. But it is your car, and do with it as you please.

iluv69s 12-24-2016 09:36 AM

Re: 1967 Camaro N100001 to be inducted into the NVHR

As for the first 2 birds, From what I remember, Fast and Loud paid 90k from 427-King then sold them w/ the resto for 300k. Or 600k??? I forget now. But Ithought a Pontiac or Firebird museum bought them ?? Did they go to auction?

Charley Lillard 12-24-2016 12:58 PM

Re: 1967 Camaro N100001 to be inducted into the NVHR

I think they were at Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas and did not sell. Those cars were offered to me several years ago before Chuck bought them. They were neat but nothing I could get excited about. The Camaro is neat but also not something I get excited about. I'm glad they all got saved and even gladder I'm not the one that saved them. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...4-dsc_8407.jpg
