Lehighton Race Cars

Seems the Professor is nearing completion of a customers NHRA Modified Production nova. Kinda of a copy cat car to his record breaking, wheel standing B/MP nova. Seems as though BBBenny has these cars down pat and I believe after any bugs and some initial shake down runs this new project race car will set the C/MP record sometime this year. NHRA competition is the best out there.

Stay tuned for updates and maybe some "pictures" of this new Lehighton race car. LRC and company will be coming to a track near you.

We fired up the race car project this morning, sounds good. Nothing like the sound of a Big Block motor. With open headers. More pics to come. Thanks The Dutchman

Damn, I must be getting old! You guys LIKE the sound of open headers? I used to until I went streetcar racing. Now the sounds of a nice streetcar race muffler like Burns stainless, Borla and even Flowmasters I much prefer over the open headers.

Good work Benny

Re: Lehighton Race Cars

Yes, a nice exhaust sounds real good also. The Professor does not race street cars. He is a big fan of the foot brake racing that he does through out the year. His nova is like an old NHRA B/MP car that ran in Modified Eliminator back in the 70's early 80's.
The car he just finished for a customer almost mirrors his red nova! Little smaller motor with the old side by side dual quad intake for the BB.
Shake down runs are coming up. Stay tuned!

Ya, I've tried to figure out the B/MP stuff as I feel that my '69 Nova would also have fit that bill quite nicely. With the mild 396 car went 10.47 back in 1997 or so area. Solid lifter 427 (427/433 that Patrick Budd did for the Polishing Sneakers article MOONS ago) went 10.49. Both in my '69 with M21 and 4.56, 9X29.5 Firestone and mufflers (we;; sorta. 3.5" Dynomax bullets).

The new ZL-1 should be able to put about 3/4's of a second off those times if not more.

Some tracks are now mandating mufflers for almost all cars. There is usually a pick-up in performance with a good muffler, but really, just just take the harshness out of the ex. note. Personal preference.

Now on that 2X4? I've seen where those actually HURT performance? Seems "puddling" of fuel under the carbs but yes that was more street. I know the 409 guys say that the MT crossrams hurt them, and now guys are proving that statement to the tune of about 2 tenths ( one guy went from PB 11.006 to consistent 10.80's first weekend out). Neat for Nostalgia and such, but seems the single 4 run quicker.

Benny, continue to to what you like and how you want to. Your running well and winning rounds. BUT now you have to deal with the competition YOUR creating!!!

Congrads bud, John

Benny can deal with anything thrown at him. He is The Professor! LRC is the home of foot brake, nostalgia racing at its best!

Old school -- all those electronic gizzmos in the cockpit make anyone look like Bill Glidden ... foot brake is a lot more of a challenge and damn sure cheaper ... also, just as much fun for the low budget. TAZ

To John;s reply. A single four barrel carb, will out do almost any two four setup. But the two four setups do look good. And it gets alot of attention, in the pits. When was the last time, you saw a cross ram setup. On a Big block chevy? JMO The Dutchman

I agree, it's fun to race with the nostalgic parts. The fan reaction is great and when you start making numbers with 'em after being told they don't perform- we'll I find that to be some of my most satisfying acheivments. Good luck and hope to see you in the pits!

I built a the race car for a guy, this past winter. That is the car in the earlier post. The car has my first engine in it. Last weekend John the owner, went to the second round. That was his first time in a race. Yesterday, he went to the Semi;s at Atco, he went five rounds.BBBenny
