Nice survivor daytona yellow camaro L78

I was visiting a customer next to D&M corvette yesterday, so I stopped in to look at the candy, and walked right past this car, thinking it was a restored car. I said they need to get it vintage judged at MCACN, and then maybe it would be considered as having paperwork, and then it would sell. Why they are not doing that, I don't know, it would help such a rightous car. Or have Jerry M bless it. Any more these days, if something is said to be a survivor, you need to have certification of such if you got to sell it for top dollar.

Beautiful. It's crazy they are having a hard time selling it. My guess is they haven't been trying too hard or they haven't got a clue...

WOW A nice car for sure... wonder if it is an original 3.73 or a 4.10 car with the curved neck radiator, although it has had the top rail and or core replaced.

Think it's 3:73.

Re: Nice survivor daytona yellow camaro L78

They told me 4:10 w/ curved neck. It needs some type of judging. They said the engine was never out, and the folks that have come to see it, backed that up. Valve covers look too nice to me, and for a 40K mile car, they look nothing like my 50K mile car. But who knows, only a judge/expert can tell.

Looks like wrong radiator and horns

Yes, the PBT appears quite vibrant, along with the sharp line at the top of the cowl.
If it still has the original non interlocking motor mounts on both sides I would be inclined to believe the engine had never been removed.

For what its worth, some heavyweight that is very well respected here, said its a real car, when he came in and looked at it. I cant share that, but believe it was true. They just could not agree on a price.

Looks like the firewall has been painted should be no paint around the wiper motor

I'd say the whole engine compartment has been redone, from what I can see in the photos.

I agree. Looks fluffed and those horns are hideous.

Nice looking car!

There doesn't seem to be a distinct line between the intake and the cylinder head.... kinda looks like the intake was painted and overspray got onto the heads?

Funny that they show so many photos of the driver's side, but not one of the passenger side, rear, etc.

It's a Kool, real car. I looked at it years ago when they first got it. It had been restored / repainted then. Maybe not frame off, but it was a complete repaint even back then. Their shop re-restored / repainted it a few years ago. The interior was very original.

If the car had a complete repaint could it still be considered a survivor ?

Re: Nice survivor daytona yellow camaro L78

wow, now I don't know what to think of this ride. For being repainted by a big shop, if that is true, it sure had a lot of scratches, and nicks, and touchups. I found so many defects, in such a short time. Makes me wonder if they tried to age it.
Both sides look the same on the car. It's sure is an eye catcher, stands out like 2 sore thumbs. Those wheels and tires look nice on it. Atleast its got 'real' going for it and that color. What was nice to see, was it has a 'glossy, semi-glossy' black tail panel, instead of the flat black everyone does. If they repainted it, they got that right.

Recent pics of Bill Hunters old Yenko also show the gloss panel.

Here is a pretty good one showing Bill's tail panel

FWIW I used catalyzed black enamel with 50% clear coat added, then 25% flattener by volume.

If you polish it at all it gets glossier.

30% flattener then polished half with rubbing compound and fine polish.

If you want to get picky, make sure it does not match the standard shade of black body paint. Its a bit different. In the direct sun it acts different than the original black body paint that stays deep black.

Re: Nice survivor daytona yellow camaro L78

It is slightly gray compared to the black on the remainder of the car- if that makes sense.

FWIW Flattener uses fine talc to knock down the sheen- talc is white, which adds an ever so slight gray tint to the paint.

That sounds promising you got it right!

The Technical and Restoration forum probably deserves a sticky thread on the correct sheen of big-block car black tail panels.
