Sharp Oldsmobile Items
A few Oldsmobile engine parts that I had made. The center timing cover is the original and I'm pretty sure it came off of the Terrifying Toronado.

Sharp valve covers are rare. He was known for his flathead products more than anything else.
Can you post a pic of them please? |

Re: Sharp Oldsmobile Items
Ryan, Ryan, Ryan.......you must educate thyself on the Rocket history, Grasshopper. There were two two-engined Toros. Grant Piston Rings owner built one for street use. I missed buying it by about 35,000 feet. I'll explain: I was reading Hemmings Motor News while flying somewhere (a vacation a few years ago) and spotted it for sale in the "Multi-Makes" section. As soon as we landed I called and literally missed it by hours. My wife sensed my excitement when I found the ad, and knew how disappointed I was when I made the call. I'm pretty sure it was in Viginia when advertised and when sold, it went to Germany.
The "Terrifying" car was raced for a very short time as it was extremely unpredictable and dangerous. There are pics of it hopping over a guardrail at a drag strip back early in it's short life. I'm pretty sure it was dismantled. |
Re: Sharp Oldsmobile Items
Are you having these parts produced for personal use or resale? The quality (judging from the pictures) is impressive! Neat stuff!!!

Re: Sharp Oldsmobile Items
The Grant Toronado is in Chicago and is owned by a friend of mine. The valve covers are all sold except 4 I have kept for a special project and I have 2 timing covers to sell and 2 for my project out of a run of 12.

Re: Sharp Oldsmobile Items
So am I wrong on that it went to Germany? I was told by the seller, that a German collector bought it and had it shipped there. Did your friend buy it recently? Do you know of the Germany story?

Re: Sharp Oldsmobile Items
Cool stuff, I have always seen pictures of the Multi engine car, but didn't know it had a name:-)
The Toronado is news to me, great stuff! Ryan |
Re: Sharp Oldsmobile Items
Always wondered about that Grant car. Please fill in the blanks (as I was lead to believe) on it. I read several articles on that car and how it was engineered and built.
|
Re: Sharp Oldsmobile Items
I do not believe the car ever left the country. I went and looked at the Grant car but I could not deal with bortz so I passed it on to my friend for his consideration. This was 5 years ago or so.
I keep my finger on the pulse of a few odd Oldsmobiles. I used to own the rear Sharp blower manifold for the Hurst Hairy Olds and 1 set of valve covers for that car also. I know where the front manifold is also. |
Re: Sharp Oldsmobile Items
And to clarify, my terminology of "a few years" in the earlier post about the Grant car being for sale was used very loosely. I kinda remember that car's rear engine being hidden in what would have been the trunk.....very unassuming. It was designed in a way that one OR both engines could be used. Still would like to hear about what happened to it.

Re: Sharp Oldsmobile Items
I know the Hemmings ad was in the "Multi-Makes" section which I don't normally read, but I think it was more than 5 years ago. Can you post info or pics of it now?
