Care of Red Line tires

I haven't really done anything in terms of cleaning my redlines since I installed them.

Any suggestions? Same as whitewalls?

One thing I've notice is that the tire sidewall seems to turn brown when exposed to the sun (like on one side, at a car show). I would like for that to not happen.

Thanks in advance -

K

Look over on autogeek. There are some very informative threads there. I have been gathering knowledge over the past few days/weeks for when I start the preservation of my L78 car..

I just use an SOS pad or some Comet and a scrub brush.

A little Bleche-Wite sprayed on a rag, rubbed directly on the red stripe will brighten them right up.

Re: Care of Red Line tires

I would try wax and grease remover...works well on the brown crud that comes out of the rubber...also cleans the whitelines and redlines. Much less caustic than lacquer thinner. After the wax and grease remover I use the spray can vinyl cleaner Tuff-Stuff...with a soft scrub brush...hose it off and they look good. There are lots of choices for tire protectants for the finish...Mequiars #40 does a good job on rubber and vinyl...not too shiney.

I've cleaned mine with a Magic Eraser & Purple Power or Simple Green: whatever is handy at the time. Finish off with Meguiars Ultra. They have held up well for five or six years now.

We have redyed red lines - use adhesion promotor prior to applying the paint and a light coat of color and it is amazing!!
