Re: 45 years ago today came home
Thanks for your service. My son spent 15 mos in Baghdad. My Dad served in the Pacific theatre in WWII.
I sometimes feel guilty for not having served in the military, especially knowing how that service affected my son and my father. Many many thanks to you and all our vets. |
Re: 45 years ago today came home
Thanks to all thanking me it was all about helping our country back then and when all of us from all different branches of service came home we were looked down at and not treated right. Last Veterans day services in Stephentown, NY us Vietnam Veterans were surprised when Senator Kathy Marchione and Congresswoman Kathy Jimino gave us awards for our service over there and made us very proud. Brought tears to my eyes.

God Bless You and THANK YOU for your service.
A friend of mine was in country and saw lots of combat. He does not talk about it much but will when we are alone together. I find it very interesting to listen to his stories... Rich |

Thank you all for serving our country and making it a safe place for me and my family. Without men and women like you all, we couldn't live like we do. It's a debt we can never repay.

Re: 45 years ago today came home
I was glad to give my time for my country and to help make our country become more safe for other peoples families and that is why other service people men and women did the same thing. Me and my friends from high school signed up right after graduating and went in August 28, 1966 and we all signed up for Vietnam after going through basic training in Chicago for Navy Sea-Bees and then to Treasure Island San Francisco, Calif. for fire fighting training and then to Adak, Alaska Jan. 1967 for 1 year then to Camh Ranh Bay Vietnam for our 3 tours duty. We would do it all over again and yes we saw some terrible things over there and so glad that Congressman Chris Gibson from Troy NY helped me get my well deserved Veterans benefits so that I could go to Veteran Hospital to get help what I saw over there because of PTSD and over the years finally don't have to have those horrible dreams of what I saw nights and sleep normal. I am helping my friends that were with me over there get help with their paperwork through people in NJ & Pa. Wish that more service men and women could get help to get rid of that through the Veterans but there is a lot of red tape involved and you have to have right person do the paperwork other wise they take advantage of you and keep you from getting your benefits. Re: 45 years ago today came home
That brings to mind another fond memory of Vietnam. After my third trip to sunny Southeast Asia, I was leaving out of Cam Ranh Bay. We (USA, USN, USAF, contractors) boarded a Braniff 707 and as we were sitting on the ramp – a 6X6 pulled up and Marines jumped out … four of them handed all their weapons, etc. to their buds. These troops looked like they just came out of the jungle. They boarded the 707 and as we were taking off, one of the Marines decided to “goose” a stewardess – she just turned around and grinned. Pretty good flight back to the States and we landed at Travis AFB. Many of us were bused down to SAX including the Marines – and there is where the fun began. As we (about a dozen GIs) were walking through the terminal these peace-nik demonstrators (15-20 women and boys – won’t call them men) were doing their thing. One of these “boys” pushed a sign (indicated something about baby-killer) into the face of one of the Marines – the sign brushed a Marines face. Needless to say the crap hit the fan. In about 10 seconds there were four or five of these boys on the ground calling for the mothers. The Marines picked up their bags and continued on. I might add there were about a half a dozen airport security dudes watching the entire event and just stood there. As we were leaving, a number of protesters were being hand-cuffed. Sweet justice!

Re: 45 years ago today came home
Have had this hanging on my wall since Vietnam one of the guys in my unit drew it back then and they used it for the one thing they made in Washington DC from the drawing that guy did I put what he drew on machine in Saigon and made metal printer plate for printing press in General Westmoreland Compound and gave copies to people that week to send home. Re: 45 years ago today came home
Back in the 80s that Air Force had a program called Project Warrior. On Chanute AFB in White Hall, I air brushed a number of murals in the "Vietnam Room" one of which is attached. The picture is of White Hall after the AF closed the base -- building is in serious disrepair and scheduled for demolition. TAZ
