Alternator Restoration

Does anybody have any suggestions on where or who to talk to about restoring my original alternator? Thanks

I had excellent service from John Pirkel in Augusta, GA. That was 10 years ago so I do not have anything current for John.

I have a local shop that has been doing it for years who is just as good as any of these guys for half the price.
I always try to go local first.

John passed away a few years ago but his son, J. Pirkle Jr. still performs restorations.

I just got mine back from this shop and the work looks great, unfortunately, his customer skills are very, very poor, I will never us him again. I've never had a business tell me I was "bugging him" and "silliness" before

I bought and 837 from Bruno years ago, turned out to be a restamp (verified by Pirkle)He took it back and returned my $$

Re: Alternator Restoration

Nearly same scenario here Sully.
Bought it from Bruno, sent it to the late Pirkle Sr.
Pirkle Sr. authenticated it as a re-stamp,before even turning a wrench on it.
When I told him I got it from Bruno,he contacted Bruno directly, sent it back to Bruno from his address for me that day,and my money was later refunded from Bruno reluctantly.

I have a local guy that could do the internals but not the finish. Are these places tumbling? I have a bead blaster.

Re: Alternator Restoration

I think a bead blaster would be fine, Bruno cleared mine - keep it from oxidizing

A client of mine was restoring his early 50's Austin Healey or something like that-can't remember what it was and he took the aluminum case generator to the local rebuilder. They fixed it but when he got it back they had put the case in a bench vice and put huge gouge marks in the case..needless to say he was not happy.
