A Sign

Great story unfolding here.
http://oldgas.com/forum/ubbthreads.p...002&page=1
One of the rarest signs to ever go on ebay.
The seller had a reserve listed, and soon realized she had greatly undervalued it.
eBaY auction http://www.ebay.com/itm/SUNSET-GASOLINE-...4#ht_500wt_1261
She's getting offers to end it,but is standing her ground.
Good for her.

Re: A Sign

Interesting Rick. I don't have ebay access here. What is the sign? Thanks.

Re: A Sign

It's a large double sided circular porcelain SUNSET Gasoline brand sign with a yellow field.Extremely nice condition for it's age.

Re: A Sign

So why is this sign the "holy grail"? If I saw it at a swap meet, I wouldn't pay more than $100.

Mr70 01-10-2012 01:04 AM

Re: A Sign

It's extremely rare, only talked about & hardly seen.Plus this one is in very good shape & double sided, all that makes it highly desirable by those who collect them.
The few examples out there, have sold swiftly & quietly among collectors and not in public circles.Taking them out of reach for the ones who also want to own one.
I know of one bidder, who is prematurely digging into his retirement fund,in hopes of owning it.Says he's always wished he had the opportunity to obtain one,and he's not getting any younger.
Signs like this, hardly ever come up on eBay.

...it just hit $25,100 and has 7 more days left...wow.

I've got the same sign hanging in my garage!!!

Well, almost the same sign..instead of the sunset, there is a picture of Tibor and Cumby

I'll sell it for a lot less

Re: A Sign

That is the one problem with selling on the web, too many wackos out there. If I owned that sign and wanted to put on the open market, I would let Mecum sell it.
