Addicted to day 2, chevelle transformation help?
I finished building my 69 around 1992 and it has been a blast to have and do not ever plan on getting rid of it, but would like to make some changes for the fun of it. It is a real SS small head car, correct colors and almost an all original red interior, hope you like it.
Being 41 I was brought up in the day 2 era and remember cruising Hempstead turnpike with my uncle in his 1971 Chevelle. I can still hear the sound of his fingers flicking the Hurst shifter at stop lights. Here is a list of things that I thought were cool. Hood Pins Toe tabs Cragars Pinstriping Ladder bars Sun tach on the hood Cool can USA-1 front plate I would love to see some pics of what you have done, and any ideas of where I should go, and what could be to much, thanks in advance. http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h3...x/100_2390.jpg |

Sam: Love the aluminum wheels and I just bought a set off Jason on this site for my olds 442. Here is a picture one month after the original owner bought the car with the same wheels. I will have that same look on my 442 next time anyone sees the car. It has poverty caps now the way it was ordered. Day two stuff is in now and very popular.

Re: Addicted to day 2, chevelle transformation help?
Thanks for the compliments, Mockingbird that nova is amazing the one picture of all the parts in the driveway is my all time favorite right now that could be a magazine add. I really cant wait to start collecting parts this winter.
I made a complete list of all of the cliches of the day2 era down to hanging my High School Graduation tassel on the rear view mirror, but what would be to far. |

Re: Addicted to day 2, chevelle transformation help?
day2killa, Sam does not tell ya but ALL those parts are originally from his Deuce when he bought it. He restored to an even higher drgree ALL those "original" Day-2 parts. He is the official president of............Day-2. There are a couple other guys on here that are CEO's and CFO's of Day-2 also like Dave Miller and Don White IMO. You are doing good. Keep up the good work and keep the questions coming.

Re: Addicted to day 2, chevelle transformation help?
Looks like you've got some nice pics to reference for the correct speed parts. Anyone still have the tow bar used on the cars?
My pop and I copied some 69 Chevelle tow tabs a few years back. They seem to be one of the hardest ones to find. Have you started collecting parts? |
Re: Addicted to day 2, chevelle transformation help?
made a phone call to my dad today to see if he has any old school parts laying around, so far no luck. I am going to dedicate the winter to collecting parts, would like a set of toe tabs Here is a shot of my friends 70 Chevelle from 1987 more inspiration.

Re: Addicted to day 2, chevelle transformation help?
I have what I was told in the 80's, is that the motor I have in my 68 Camaro was from Scotts old race car from the early 70's . This info had come from Bobby lasordo of Wildwood auto body & Ferd loy who was one of his employees back in the day. When I first got it, it had a tunnel ram with 660 center squirters & was put in a 69 SS but now its in my 68 SS. Anyone know anything else about this motor or what kinda car Scott had it in, It's a 468. It kicks ass & runs 10.80's

Re: Addicted to day 2, chevelle transformation help?
Well I have made some progress, after alot of research I realized that my fondest memories of hot rods started around 10, I remember cutting out pictures and hanging them on my closet door and I had two uncles that really built some great cars when I was young. So my infuential time period starts in 1980 and with research I rediscovered the Car Craft street machine nations of that era. So I am not doing a period correct day 2 replication but instead a street machine nationals car, pre tubbed era. I am no where near done or is it perfect but some work is complete so I thought I would share some pics.
Something cool about the work done is some of the parts are true family original that were donated to the project. http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h3...x/DSC00749.jpg Changes made, hood pins, USA plate, toe tabs, wheels and tires http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h3...x/DSC00750.jpg This is my actual graduation tassel http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h3...x/DSC00742.jpg http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h3...x/DSC00732.jpg The boot and Hurst shifter handle came from my uncles 71 Chevelle circa 1982, can you figure out the boot I made some custom modifications to it. http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h3...x/DSC00740.jpg This plate came off of my first car a 1964 chevy, trim ring from ebay http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h3...x/DSC00735.jpg http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h3...x/DSC00764.jpg Thank you so much for all of the great inspiration and ideas, keep on building. |

Re: Addicted to day 2, chevelle transformation help?
Very nice! My 70 Chevelle had a CC Nationals West decal from 1980. I wish I had kept the decal!

</div></div> Also very fond of the '77-'early 80's era especially the Car Craft Nat's.. Here are some pics of SOME of my SMN's collection but not all. I collect the '72 and '77-'84 era... I have way more stuff than pictured. Have some of the really rare stuff no one sees anymore like the sponges they would gave out to wash the cars with the nat's log imprinted on them. Have all the decals and license plate frames etc. Lot's of unused tickets etc. I became personal friends with Lee Laskey who worked with Special Events, the promoter of the show. Purchased from Lee many of the insider stuff the general public never received like the "official" badges, the street machine survey booklet that was handed out to venders that sort of thing. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...S/IMG_1606.jpg http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...S/IMG_1605.jpg http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...S/IMG_1602.jpg |

LOL, a few of my frisbees have dog teeth marks in them... I really think the golden age of the CC Nat's was 77-81 when it was at Indianapolis. Cars were still basic street driven cars..cars we could all relate to back then and today. Most still had true Day 2 parts on them and were modified much like the early to mid 70's. Starting in the early 80's era the cars just got silly with one upmanship...c/mon fuel funny car style cages in street cars.. Cars just became hokey...caricatures if you will. The earlier Nat's still had wheel barrow races and spark plug changing contest..more laid back and fun. People just lounged around. Later ones turned into more of a full on competition with the participants, professionalism might be a better term? and I think some of the earlier charm of the events went away. For instance I remember when a super hot car came rolling in people would literally run, yes run as in sprinting in large groups to see the car park etc. Today it's just hohum one of many. Even I don't get that real excitement anymore at events. The early Nat's was one of the first real places where folks from rural, less urban areas saw some really nice cars...stuff we only saw in magazines. Maybe that is why these early shows are so special to so many people. |
