Day 2 & Street Freak Paint Thread
Very nice, subtle paint circa 73-74 on a A&A Channel Ram hood scoop. Swirls and ribbon painting(not endless lines) done in candies and pearls was very popular in that time period. Metalflake was pretty much dead by then.

Re: Day 2 & Street Freak Paint Thread
A 68 RR that was in my area back in 1973-1974.
The Polaroid is really faded from age but if you look at the front of the front fender you can kinda get a feel for what the paint looked like on the car. It also had red, orange, green etc swirls and ribbons on the side which has faded on the pic with time. http://i1116.photobucket.com/albums/...roadrunner.jpg |

Re: Day 2 & Street Freak Paint Thread
This Nova was at the Fort Atkinson Show this summer. The story I heard is that it's been sitting for 30 years and just came out of storage.

Re: Day 2 & Street Freak Paint Thread
Any shots of the L-88 hood on that 68 Nova?

Re: Day 2 & Street Freak Paint Thread
Cool Nova. Is that a mural on the side panels??
Car would look good with some sort of slogan or name on the side done in gold leaf to break up the expansive side panel. |
Re: Day 2 & Street Freak Paint Thread
How about this paint job at MCACN in the Corvette Mike booth? Some discussion/speculation about it being a GM show car that went to South Africa.

Re: Day 2 & Street Freak Paint Thread
Cool paint.Nice color combo.
Not saying it was painted in the mid 60's when the car was new but there are some trends in that paint that that did not arise until the very late 60's/early 70's. Original pschyadhelic paint can be dated very accurately as trends usually only lasted 2 years or so before they were "dated" and people moved on. I would say very early 70's. I would also bet that car had aftermarket mags on it but it appears the Corvette Restoration Police clamped down at some point. Car needs some period aftermarket mags on it to tie the whole car in together. Nice car though. |
Re: Day 2 & Street Freak Paint Thread
South Africa cars don't need to be quite so current.
http://www.volkswagenpedia.org/wp-co...f_citi_mk1.jpg VW Golf Mk1 – 1974-2009 The Volkswagen Golf Mk1 – begun in South Africa 25 years ago, spread world wide by VW lovers – has seen the end of its production run in 2009. The Golf is dead – LONG LIVE THE GOLF! Over 500,000 Golf Mk1′s have been produced since the 70′s – each one as groovy as its predecessor. |
Re: Day 2 & Street Freak Paint Thread
----The knock-offs are the wheels the car came with. They are dated to the car and were on the car when it arrived back in the US. The car was delivered to GMs South Africa distributer and supposedly used for promotional purposes. The question is weather the paint was applied by the GM distributer before the car was sold or after.......Bill S

Not a street car but I still love this paint job. I looked at it when it was at Mecum in Indy.
