Re: Some scans from years past...SM Nats, etc
Speaking of Courtesy Chevrolet is Southern California, a friend of mine worked there in the Service Department in the early-Seventies and when Jenkins was in town and left his '70 Pro/Stock Camaro at the dealership for a weekend display they pushed the car into a Service bay with a lift and took lots of notes on all the tricks for their own '70 Camaro race car!

Re: Some scans from years past...SM Nats, etc
Some of these you may have seen before...
More Anaheim Convention Center...this car was a weird shade of green... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6.../tn_ACC781.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6.../tn_ACC782.jpg High school buddy Rob's split window bug (I remember he scored the tail lights out of a warehouse in Mexico...LOL). He sold this and built a flip front end 56 ford truck...that ended up in a bunch of magazines, http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6.../tn_ACC783.jpg This was owned by a local auto shop ...and was used as advertising http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6.../tn_ACC784.jpg The Van WIlgen VW...actually one of 4. Gene (who did the body work on my Nova and collected BMW Isettas way back then) built a bug for each of his kids when they graduated high school. This one was built start to finish in about 1 month. He added the split window to the back, envelope chopped the roof, made it right hand drive and it won Bug o rama at OCIR. This picture was it's debut to any show. Notice the VW cutouts in the turn signal area...before billet stuff was popular http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6.../tn_ACC785.jpg |

Thanks for posting!
Definitely a great time period. I have dozens of pics from 1979-1980 Street Machine Nats in Indy, I'll have to dig them out and scan them. Who can forget the late 70's.... |
