Favorite '69 Z's we've owned
1 Attachment(s)
This is my favorite Z that I've owned. Its had a very good owner down in CA for the last several years, and he was kind enough to send me this recent picture. This was an 02C Los Angeles car, 72 72 w/711 standard interior. Console, gauges, M-20 wide ratio (double stamped with the partial VIN), and a BO1220G rearend. For those unfamiliar, the BO rear is the 3.73 12 bolt you got if you opted NOT to get the recommended positraction on your Z. Rally Sport trim, but flat hood and no spoilers. I loved it that way, and am so grateful the new owner has kept it as such. It had 4 of its original 5 Jan 20th dated YH wheels when I bought it, and I found a 5th Jan 20 wheel in a stack of FW's at a swapmeet locally within a year of buying it (!!). Had the original POP with it, and I found a very readable chassis build sheet on top of the gas tank. Great car! I know many on the board here have had '69 Z's, and would like to see you post your favorites if you get a chance.

I still own this car. Flat hood no spoilers. The fact the car did not have a ZL2 hood and D80 attracted me to it among other things. I bought the car 6 years ago with 35K miles and about 95% original paint. The car looked a little rough in places within 20 feet so I decided to paint it. Other than paint the car is original, including the carpet and dashpad.
I don't know if I like the TT's or not...they grow on me then I look at the car with Rallys and think about taking them off. I guess the good news is that they just bolt on and off! |
Re: Favorite '69 Z's we've owned
Nice car!!

Re: Favorite '69 Z's we've owned
Best current thread on the forum!
Love the gold car with the TTs... don't change a thing! |
Re: Favorite '69 Z's we've owned
Seems like everyone wants a red or black muscle car but the majority of cars in the 70s were colors of the era, gold, green and blue. Olds actually had three golds in 1970. My car was originally gold and I almost painted it black many years ago. Very glad I restored it the original color. There is a picture of my olds in the post on this site related to my 1970 442 w-30. The Camero look great in gold.

My first Z was orange with black stripes. Looking back I was pretty fortunate to purchase it in 1976. To me that color combination has the wow factor. It funny now but I debated buying the car because of the hideous fiber optic monitors on the fenders(I've grown fond of them now). This was the car sold in 1983 and purchased back in Dec of 09.
Another Z I own is a black that is opted exactly as I would have back in the day. There is something menacing about the look of black cars. My blue/blue rs/ss L34 is my favorite although it's not a Z. |

You bet! I love that black car! Tim |
Re: Favorite '69 Z's we've owned
I'll take that triple black Z28 over any color that i have seen.
As long as it came that way from day one. Very nice!! An RS is always sweeter on a Z28 too. |

Re: Favorite '69 Z's we've owned
I think one of the best Z28 combinations is the ZL2 hood without spoilers. We Vintage Certified a survivor that Ken Pascoe owned and it looked fantastic. It was FG with white interior. I'd love to own that car.

Another flat hood Z28 I've owned since '94, 17k original miles. It was legend certified a few years ago by Steve and the Vintage Certification program. Thanks Steve!

Re: Favorite '69 Z's we've owned
All I can say is it was a pleasure certifying your car which achieved our top level Legend Award. That car is absolutely like new and stunning!
This years MCACN show is shaping up to be a spectacular event, possible even more impressive than the previous two. The Vintage Cerification program will have some killer cars going through, such as a 70 Challenger TA under 1000 miles, 66 SS Chevelle like new, 73 TA-SD with about 1000 miles, 81 Z28. When was the last time you saw an unrestored Z16 survivor??? This is a can't miss event so if you can make the MCACN show please stop by the Vintage Cerification area and see our certification team in action with these wonderful cars, and a few others. |

Re: Favorite '69 Z's we've owned
Has anyone ever seen or heard of the 69 Z that NASCAR driver Dave Marcis bought new? I saw it around 1988 partially covered but from what I remember it is LeMans blue, standard blk interior, no spoilers, gauges, console, and flat hood. I heard about a year ago he still owns it.
