1968 COPO nova
Recently I have come across a 68 copo nova. I have seen a few pictures of these cars before and neither had the badges that this particular copo had, the first was on the driver side front hood, the second was on the console, both read "custom built by Dick Harrell, would this mean that this car had special prep that other 68 copos did not have?

Re: 1968 COPO nova
Is this Mark?
By the way Dick Harrell was a builder like Nickey, Berger, Dana,Bill Thomas, etc and also a drag racer as well... I believe that those badges have been reproduced by a few different people. Is this car documented? |

Re: 1968 COPO nova
Awesome find if it proves to be the real deal. Bring it to the Fred Gibb memorial show this August! We would love to see it.
|
Re: 1968 COPO nova
Please put me in contact with the original owner, thanks Mark

Re: 1968 COPO nova
The car is not owned by me, I came across it through a friend. The car has not moved since 1971, it sure looks real to me, still has the M&H racemasters on it.

Re: 1968 COPO nova
I think they meant the original owner in the link still has his car and would be a great person to talk with. Like Rick said bring it to the Fred Gibb show in Aug no matter the shape. The cars were out of Gibb Chevrolet and to Harrell for a LITTLE tuning.

Re: 1968 COPO nova
vortecpro,
Very interesting to read about another of the cars being found and with your willingness to share this information. Along with others, several are members here, it has been a long endeavor for us in locating the known cars that still exist? This can also be said for the history behind these special Nova's? It is people like you who have been a tremendous help in locating these cars that many enthusiast's didn't even know existed a few years back? You have mentioned about the car sitting since 1971, as I understand, but does the original owner still own this car or had it ever been titled to another? Was the car always raced or was it licensed to drive that you know of? Any other information you would be willing to share, pictures, etc., would be of interest to many? Ray Burt Chevrolet of Englewood, CO was a dealership Dick Harrell had set up in his network as seen in this ad. http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/b...090450PM-2.jpg |
Re: 1968 COPO nova
Vortecpro: are you by any chance the guy that built that killer engine for Bob West's green Chevelle?
|
Re: 1968 COPO nova
A Red car with Harrell history. Interesting.

Mark, I have seen another of the 396 Harrell perpared cars with the metal tags that look to be the same? A 68 red camaro that is now in a popular collection was located in Topeka, KS, at a Super Chevy Show in 93. It had what looks to be the same tags, though located in different places? This car has an 07A build date, which should be correct for a red copo Nova? The car looks to be in very good shape overall, looks to have the same M&H slicks I got with mine, though they may or may not be original to the car? M&H was a very popular brand back in the time! Possibility on the wheels, the purchaser could buy most anything that he was willing to pay for from DHPC, or they may have been added later? Name on this race car is "Rats Nest." |
Re: 1968 COPO nova
From what I was just told the car has been sold. I want to thank Mark for being a stand up guy but unfortunately I could not make a deal with the owner. Mark turned me on to the car when this was first posted and was kind enough to inspect the car for me. Here are a couple of photos that Mark sent me back in May. Sorry, there not that clear. From what I know the car is in nice solid shape but is missing its born with drive train...engine, trans and rear. Good luck to the new owner, I'm sure it will be nice when done.

Re: 1968 COPO nova
It appears as though the other thread on this car was locked after Charley asked that it be moved to the 'for sale' section with an asking price. Now it appears that it may have sold.
I think it's important to follow the site rules, including that you must be a member to advertise & also give some credit to the site if sold here. So, with that in mind, the asking price according to an email I rec'd was 125K. |

Re: 1968 COPO nova
How many Red Harrell 68 novas have been found
|
Re: 1968 COPO nova
amazing pictures
looks like a ghost from the past I hope it can be preserved |
Re: 1968 COPO nova
Very cool car love to see it stay period correct l78camaro.com
|
Re: 1968 COPO nova
I think the car was a Harrell tuned 396 car and not a 427 transplant...but I could be wrong. There is only one other red car found that I know of. The rear end was swapped out and put into a 69 Camaro. The motor and trans were blown up along time ago. But I was told the owner that drag raced the car has two trailers full of parts so some of the original stuff may still be around....who knows?

They look more like the foil insert type bezels to me; which would be '68 only. |
Re: 1968 COPO nova
I think what brent is trying to say is 68 novas have clear lenses 69 novas had amber. But it does look like the correct foil badges.

So, what specifically made the non converted 396 Harrell Novas any different from the other L78's?(other than the heavy duty auto trans) Thanks |
