Any Unrestored Supercars left?
It seems to me that most supercars out there are already restored... and more are being disassembled and restored everyday. I'd like to get my hands on a neat unrestored supercar that I can preserve and enjoy in its original condition for years to come and show off at SCR, etc.
Given that I intend to drive it, I'm looking for a survivor that is still relatively intact and untouched that retains most of its original components, paint and patina. As much as I'd like to find an unrestored supercar that is still in pristine condition, I realize that 40 year old lacquer paint gets cracked, checked, faded and most cars will have some rust. The car does not have to be running, but I intend to get it back to running/driving. My preference is to find a REAL original COPO or dealer converted 427 car (Dana, Yenko, Baldwin, Berger, Harrell, Nickey, or any other dealer, etc.) in any condition. I will also pay a reasonable finders fee for help finding a suitable car. Thanks in advance for your help. I can be reached by phone or text at 403-803-3879 or emailed at |
Re: Any Unrestored Supercars left?
Well, I was quick on the draw trying to save and preserve that Dick Harrell COPO Nova, but I got beat.
I'm still in the market... despite our turbulent stock market. Please keep me in mind guys and gals, and thanks for the calls so far! |
Re: Any Unrestored Supercars left?

Not yet. I appreciate all the leads on cars needing restoration, but I'm really looking for an original unrestored car that can be preserved without restoring. I'm patiently waiting for the right one to come along. Thanks! |
Re: Any Unrestored Supercars left?
Hey, whats with all the recent competition???
I started my search because it seemed everyone was busy restoring those few remaining survivors, so I wanted to preserve one for myself... now everyone seems to be looking for cars with original paint? I'm still looking for the right unrestored supercar survivor, so please keep me in mind guys and gals. Thanks |
Re: Any Unrestored Supercars left?
Good luck with that

Re: Any Unrestored Supercars left?
.... as we approach the bottom of the curve in musclcar values .... and after several rare cars with some sort of issue have gone thru auctions at a very low price ... I believe there are serious collectors that have sat on the sidelines for along time and are now trying to find good deals on the real nice cars... before the market starts to take a change. .... I would do the same |
Re: Any Unrestored Supercars left?
Its the trend we happen to be in right now. Much the same as the changing fashions for women.
|
Re: Any Unrestored Supercars left?
Original paint, original interior, Original Glass don't need explanations.
|
Re: Any Unrestored Supercars left?
Sounds like a winner to me. Why wouldn't anybody try to buy or preserve a nice original survivor car? To many cars IMO get full restos instead of maybe a repaint and some real nice detaling.

Bingo! I've finally seen the light.... |
Re: Any Unrestored Supercars left?
Bump... an original paint H/O COPO Camaro would be just what I've been looking for!

Re: Any Unrestored Supercars left?
I think that's what everybody is looking for

Bump... anyone?

Re: Any Unrestored Supercars left?
Tin Soldiers on the market. More history than most supercars, original owner still around, and he actually worked for gm norwood and built the copo with his own hands. Less than 5000 original miles, in day 2 race trim.
Many more details in the for sale section. Rich |
Re: Any Unrestored Supercars left?
I would consider selling my Baldwin Motion Corvette. Check out www.1972motionvette.com for info and pics. PM me if it interest you
|
Re: Any Unrestored Supercars left?
Yeah, the Tin Soldier and that 1972 Motion Vette are both really neat supercar survivors!
I'm really looking for a COPO Chevelle or Camaro in original condition (original paint with plenty of patina is fine with me) that I can put a few miles on from time to time. |
Re: Any Unrestored Supercars left?
Bump

Re: Any Unrestored Supercars left?
If you buy a restored one now and use it, you will have a nice patina car in 15 years like you are looking for. Otherwise, you will still be bumping this post in 2029

Re: Any Unrestored Supercars left?
Leave a nice restored car with me and I will return a "survivor" in 2029:-)

Any Unrestored Supercars left?
Yeah, mine. But it's a Pontiac |
Re: Any Unrestored Supercars left?
I am not sure what qualifies a car as a survivor, it seems most folks have their own personal opinion, does one repaint to original colors remove it from survivor status, do wrong parts on the car remove it from being a survivor, are there any rules written on this.

Re: Any Unrestored Supercars left?
Mike,
The term "survivor" can cover a lot of ground. Mostly in the eye of the beholder I'd say. Many of my cars are survivors. However, some have had touch ups, but none have been blown apart and rebuild from the ground up. That is the starting point for me. Paint on these is usually not great if the cars had been driven or stored outside. I'd also say that a real survivor will have most, if not all, original components on the car. The folks that do the Vintage Certification on survivor cars look at all aspects of the car. Paint, interior, drive train and all major components; giving a grade to each and every aspect of the car. In the end, the point total determines the current level (percentage) of originality. It is a sliding scale depending on each individual car. That of course depends on the historical use and care of the car. I still have to tip my hat to Steve Shauger, Chris White and company in their efforts to Vintage Certify survivor cars. It actually gives an incentive to keep a car as original as possible. As the saying goes, they are only original once. Not sure if this answers your question, but the Vintage Certification guys have done the most to quantify original cars outside of the Corvette world, which has done it for years. Phil Woj. |
Re: Any Unrestored Supercars left?
Yes I agree ,Steve and his team are very good and dedicated , they put in a lot of overtime at MCACN to get the cars inspected on time.

Re: Any Unrestored Supercars left?
Hi Mike,
It was great having your car participate in our Heritage Display at MCAC show this year. In the Vintage Certification process our certification achievement awards are: Vintage Time Capsule - Vehicles that are 95+% unrestored in all reference areas Vintage Legend - Vehicles that are 85+% unrestored in all reference areas combined. Vintage Heritage - Vehicles that are 85+% unrestored in four reference areas. Vintage Legacy - Vehicles that are 85+% unrestored in three reference areas Vintage Reference - Vehicles that are 85+% unrestored in at least one reference area. The term Survivor is defined and trademarked by Bloomington Gold as the following. As the name implies, Corvettes that have never been restored have ‘survived’ intentional or unintentional loss of original markings, paint or components. Corvettes remaining over 50% unrestored or unmodifi ed may qualify for this award if they remain in a condition that would serve well as an historic guide for others who want to restore a Corvette of that vintage and type. This award is designed to recognize those Corvettes that are “Worn in, but not worn out.” A Survivor Corvette is signifi cantly unrestored, unrepaired, or unmodifi ed and useful as a historic reference. It is a Corvette who in the best interest of research should not be restored or improved. Again, as with Certifi cation, the cars are judged against a factory standard and not against one another. The technical portion of the judging is eliminated and instead the Corvettes must complete a 10-mile road test under their own power. Survivors must pass at least 3 of the 4 categories of exterior, interior, engine compartment and chassis. |
Re: Any Unrestored Supercars left?
Thanks Steve for letting me join you this year,
I felt honored to be included in your Heritage Display and group of rare cars, and thanks for the information. Mike |
