More L-89 Nova Info
"The Tonawanda engine plant kept VERY accurate records on engines built during each model year. These "Summeries of Engines Built" list EVERY engine we built by assembly number and description. This number crossed over to a suffix code so from them I could determine how many of each SUFFIX CODE we built. Sometimes, as in the case of the L-89 engines built, I had further records. In these cases it was "engine canceled, not replaced" and then a date.
In the case of the L-89 engines in 1970, in October 1969 the L-89 396 option was canceled, not replaced. As far as the LS6/L89 NONE WERE BUILT. Period. In model year 1970 NO aluminum head LS6 engines were built. In 1971 there were 200 LS6 engines built and put into Corvettes, ALL were aluminum head (due to the lowered compression ratio). I've spent many years researching big block production (ALL big blocks). I'm always open to new information, DOCUMENTED AND IRRIFUTABLE. But if anyone wants to contradict me they'd better have better records than I do!. Sorry if this sounds "hard", but it's late and I'm tired. If you need anything more feel free to Email me. Fran Preve" Just quoting what I was told by Fran. As many know, he was a plant manager for many years at the Tonawanda plant and had aquired all the records for a period of time including the late 60's and early 70's. To my knowledge his widow now maintains these records. R.I.P. Fran This info was in the Clements L-89 Chevelle thread and shines a little more light on the Production Dates for the L-89 option........Seems the Engine combo was dropped in October 69............The Black 1 of 1 car was built in the third week of March...........Another piece of the Puzzle.....Doesn't seem possible .......... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/hmmm.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/hmmm.gif. Re: More L-89 Nova Info
Yes

Re: More L-89 Nova Info
Ken with this information is it possible that a 1968 or 1969 L89 Nova could have been built?
|
Re: More L-89 Nova Info
69 seems most likely of the three, doesn't it?
|
Re: More L-89 Nova Info
If the L-89 was offered back then Fred Gibb would have had them on the 68 nova. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Re: More L-89 Nova Info
Hey Ken,
I was thinking the same thing about the late Oct.69 cancellation. The 1 of 1 Nova engine pad had a late Feb. build date stamped on it,Feb.22 or 26 if i remember. So that explains why there were 18 Chevelles built with the L89 heads, early production before going to the 454 block by Dec.1 of 69.I guess if you wanted the L89 heads bad enough you could still have the dealer install them from over the counter. |

I guess if you wanted the L89 heads bad enough you could still have the dealer install them from over the counter. I Agree........But.......#842's probably would have been a better choice .....unless they didn't know any better............Seems to be some Major Issues here.... Ken |

I don't know what the issue is. They never built one. Or as I have asked for the last 20 years. Show me the proof. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif

Re: More L-89 Nova Info
ATTENTION:
I own the 4th L-89 Nova! It has been in the family and use to belong to my grandfather's next door neighbor's second cousin on his mother's side. Fully documented with a hand written letter from him before he went "away" for treatment. Do not try to purchase this from me it is NOT FOR SALE! It only needs a minor restoration and will be auctioned off soon to the highest bidder. Below is the only picture I will allow to be seen by the public until after the restoration. Start saving your money guys - you will need it to buy this ultra rare 1 of 4 car!! By the way does anybody have any 074 heads for sale?? http://i387.photobucket.com/albums/o...ac_Ventura.jpg |

Re: More L-89 Nova Info
As Displayed on the windshield
Shown as a "Dream Car" on the TV series "Dream Car Garage" and highlighted as a feature restoration in Hemmings Muscle Machines; this Nova was also a finalist for Muscle Car of the Year in 2008 by Super Chevy and Hemmings. Additional notoriety for the L89 was a Calendar feature in Oct 2008 and two Chevy Vettefest Gold Spinner Awards The over 2 1/2 year rotisserie restoration is evident on this #1 Supercar. A 100% numbers matching "born with" drivetrain; all original sheetmetal, body panels, floor and trunk with perfect Tuxedo Black is powered by the 375 hp engine All components on the car are factory and date code correct This amazing Nova underwent a nut and bolt restoration to factory specs at Legendary Motorcar of Canada where the car was documented as authentic by Supercar experts during the assembly. It comes with the original protectoplate, original license plate issued when new, and a full Inspection Report by Supercar Restorer Brian Henderson as well as national judging sheets from all the events. It has been authenticated as a complete numbers matching L-89 Nova, as well as a genuine 1 of 1 car! This is truly the opportunity of a lifetime to own one of the most significant Chevrolet supercars ever produced and certainly one of the most sought after collector cars in the world! Description on the window placard.........I'm at a loss for words........... Any Comments?? Ken https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif |

Re: More L-89 Nova Info
Seriously..........What are the Standards for presentation of a car at Auction?? Example......If I took a car to Auction and claimed whatever, and someone buys it..........and finds out that it wasn't what I presented it as.....What would the Legal remedies be, if any?? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/hmmm.gif

Re: More L-89 Nova Info
The owner of the car is the one responsible for the description period. Now it is in the best interest of the auction house to only sell legitimate cars. Their reputation is also on the line to a degree and it is certainly wise and good business. If the auction knows a car is a fake they may/have cancelled auctions for cars. They are only a forum to promote and sell cars period.
They don't authenticate cars... |

Damn nice looking Nova, BTW. I really want to know what that thing brings...one of the reasons I went! WHO'd actually bid on that thing??? Anyone willing to shell out any amount of cabbage in this economy would certainly know how questionable it is (at best)....no? |

Re: More L-89 Nova Info
It recieved very minor sheet metal damage on the drivers side, mostly some small scrapes/dents, nothing major at all.
It will cross the block in, well...right about now. Bashton MCACN Managing Member |
Re: More L-89 Nova Info
Drew just mentioned the "Supercar Registry" at the auction a few minutes ago!
