Toyota/Lexas Recall
I saw today that the recall fix for the floormats is....R you sitting....plastic tie clips. Yup clip the floormat to the seat frame. I thought the Toyota ad campaign was " Think Smart " I can se it now. Special Addition Lexas clips. Holy Crap Batman. Even low priced cars have attachment devices for the floor mats. What happens when the first say Car Wash guy cuts them and the mat goes back under the accelerator...Lawsuit I guess https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif

Re: Toyota/Lexas Recall
There was a pretty good article in yesterdays newspaper about the frames rusting away on the Tundra trucks. They have had a rust problem for years, but it was kept out of the news media. The frames rusts so bad the brake and fuel lines are breaking. No surprise there though.

Re: Toyota/Lexas Recall
How was it kept out of the news media? This has been known for a long time.

I haven't. It may have been known for a long time, but not acknowledged, like ANY recall of the Big Three has been. |
Re: Toyota/Lexas Recall
Toyota stands behind their cars better than any others in my opinion. Just look at the 90s v06 headgasket recalls and recent Tacoma complete recalls due to rust issues.

Re: Toyota/Lexas Recall
All Lexus' do have the clips to hold the mats in place on the driver's side. The problem is that people are putting the all weather mats on top of the regular carpet mats, and the clips won't hold them both in place - the rubber mat comes loose and slids up. Simple solution - take out the carpet mats. I sold Lexus for a couple of years and always advised owners to take out the carpet mats when installing all weather mats, but some people don't listen.

Or perhaps you're looking for bias. |

Re: Toyota/Lexas Recall
The tie strap fix is an interim fix until they come up with a permanent solution. As for the frame rot-yep, we've seen a few Tacomas with bad frames at the dealer I work for however Toyota has been paying 150% of book value to buy back the trucks (making current owners VERY happy) on trucks up to year 1999. On 2000-1 trucks they are replacing the frames (and the "kit" contains new suspension, fuel lines park brake cables etc etc)

My location doesn't have a thing to do with my feelings towards foriegn cars. I buy American cars. Always have, always will. |

Meanwhile, the Ford plant here is closing soon. So which company is helping the unemployment problem and who is adding to it? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif |
Re: Toyota/Lexas Recall
You just don't get it. The big three pay 35 to 50 per hr. The foreign plants pay 16 to 20 per hr. The profit is what you have to look at !! The reason they built the plants here, it was cheaper period... Had nothing to do with them liking us. We gave them tax discount and free ground. I sure they won't do the same over there for us. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Re: Toyota/Lexas Recall
I'll be sure to tell the 1000+ employees of the St.Paul Ford plant that they are helping Ford's "profits" while they are standing in the unemployment line.

It's about what's most profitable for them, especially considering the 1970s brought them tariffs due to Detroit lobbying Congress because the Big Three were getting their pants beat off of them. What did the clever foreign companies do? Build plants in America to avoid the tariffs. In other words, I think it's you who doesn't get it. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif |

Re: Toyota/Lexas Recall
Andy, the reason 1000 plus unemployed is because "we the people" have bought too much foreign crap. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif
|
Re: Toyota/Lexas Recall
No, it's because they were building a product that no one wanted to buy.

Again, show me the tag on your shirt and shoes, also the brand on your computer and TV. Where was your coffee maker made?
Why is it always about "those damn Jap cars"?? |
Re: Toyota/Lexas Recall

I want French wine, Swedish porn, Japanese tuna, and Italian crystal.
It's economically stupid on so many levels to buy only from one country. And it's even stupider to tell someone what their needs are. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...thumbsdown.gif |

Re: Toyota/Lexas Recall
Of late, I have been giving serious consideration to two new vehicles:
1. 2010 Cadillac SRX....an "American" car which is built in Mexico with Mexican labor. 2. 2010 Toyota Venza....a "foreign" car which is built in Kentucky with American labor. So, which one is really the "foreign" car? Seriously, I don't know https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif Unfortunately, I think the whole issue is far beyond the flag-waving "Buy American" mentality of old....especially when you factor in the countries of origin of all the components used to build them. Clear as mud https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/crazy.gif |

Re: Toyota/Lexas Recall
The whole thread was about 880,000 recalled trucks & 3.8 million cars recalled. Largest recall in U.S. history. Let's keep the subject here.

I don't remember telling you what your needs are?? [/ QUOTE ] Sorry, it's easy to get you guys mixed up. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/haha.gif But to constantly clamor and tell me that not buying American is hurting our country is implicitly telling me how I should spend my money. That's crossing a line that you don't want to cross unless you want to look like a hypocrite, as someone just threw it back a few posts ago. [ QUOTE ] Also explain why it's .I Quote "IT's ECONOMICALLY STUPID" to buy American. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bs.gif [/ QUOTE ] I never said that. What I had said was, "It's economically stupid on so many levels to buy only from one country." If you twist my word like that, it's no wonder your other thoughts are twisted. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif But if you're still interested in hearing how buying solely from one country is economically not the smartest thing to do, I think there must be some community college with an online course of Econ 101 that may lead you to the answer you seek, grasshoppah. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif |

Re: Toyota/Lexas Recall
Could the recall have anything to do with the grade or quality of steel? I am trying to find where the steel is from. Seems to be reminiscent of the cheap brake rotors from China.
