Finally found one for Dad.

I really hadn't considered one before but a couple weeks ago at a car show Dad mentioned how much he liked the 67 Convertible we were looking at and I remembered him and Mom had a Convertible ChevyII when I was a baby. I purchased this 67 and have dropped it off at a friends resto shop to be slicked up over the next few months. Dad doesn't know it yet and I plan to surprise him and my Step Mom with it this fall.

It's a base model 6 cylinder 3 speed, Bolero Red with black top and interior. Plans are stock paint and interior with a nice set of gauges and either a 327 or 350 and 4 speed.I think I may add power steering too. I hope He likes it......

Dad will be 59 in October. I'm hoping to have it ready then. Although Dad liked driving the six cylinder Nova I had he digs the small block Nova I have now and mentions his old Chevelle with the 327 4 speed alot. The six in the Camaro is tired and is a replacement engine from the 80's. The car is very solid but will need some floor pan work and a couple of fenders and possibly one quarter. Trunk looks great and the frame rails looked nice too. A battery issue took care of one fender and extension, core support and the tray itself... I like the 15x8 rally wheels but again, Dad really digs Torque Thrusts so I think it will have a set of tto's when I get to that point.

That is great, wish I could do that. I always say that if my dad were still here I would get him a blooming onion and a cordless drill.
This also reminds me of a friend whose brother bought a 69 Z, had Super Car Workshop restore it. He had shipped to a car show and he went nuts looking for the owner untill his brother handed him the keys.

That is one reason for doing this. We have always been close and I live next door to him now. Dad was diagnosed with cancer last year and although I had planned on buying something for him eventually I did think it was time to move a little quicker. The Cancer he has is slow and he is doing well. He still outworks me most of the time....

I'm not getting him the onion because I would have to ride with him later https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif..... I think I borrowed his cordless drill https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/hmmm.gif.. I know I have his level and skill saw https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif

Wow!!!!! The stories about dads always seem to get to me. my dad has had 12 back operations reconstructive surgery on his right foot and just had his right hip replaced and has to have the other done this fall. he is my hero. always has been. Like you Tommy, I bought and am currently restoring an 81 el camino ss for him. we bought a 427 stinger vette hood scoop a muncie 4spd and 327/365hp motor out of a wrecked 65vette.1965 el camino bed emblems 60,s style ss badges old rally wheels. its coming together nicely. he bought a new heritage soft tail 2yrs ago but cant hardly hold it up now. he like the 78-87 el caminos so thats what i bought him. congrats on your find im sure he will be happy. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gifheres to you and your dad. i hope he gets better https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif

Thanks for the encouraging words guys. I just left the resto guys shop a few minutes ago and from what we can see it appears to be a really solid camaro. He likes what he sees. Just last nite Dad mentioned how cool the 1st Gen Camaros were... I just smiled and agreed https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif

Re: Finally found one for Dad.

Wow Tommy, that is really awesome.

Let me share a little story. My Dad was a dyed in the wool Chrysler guy who worked for Chrysler for nearly 35 years. He was a Senior VP, and also had a hand in the formation of their legal department back in the 60's. Although Dad was never a "car guy", he was indeed a Chrysler guy.

Whenever conversation came around to cars, he would always talk about a certain 1963 Chrysler 300 he had and how it was his all time favorite car. I can hear him telling the stories of cruising in that car and the attention it recieved just like it was yesterday...

Although Dad had no set time to retire, (he was somewhat of a workoholic), my Brother and I knew it had to be getting closer each year. We devised a plan to find a similar 300, and partner up to restore a 300, just like the one he had, to give him as a retirement present when the time came.

My Mother thought this was a great idea and she agreed to help us fund the project. A short time later, while looking through Hemmings, I found one for sale, in of all places, LaHarpe, IL. My Brother and I rented a tow bar and got in my van to buy the car and drag it home.

The car was pretty solid and complete and the owner even through in an additional 383, along with various other parts. I also remember he had cars all over his farm, both inside and out, including a row of Mopars way out at the back of his field, which he said were his Sons and not for sale. (does this sound familiar to any of you LaHarpe area residents?)

Anyway, we towed it home and immediately began gathering parts to embark on a full resto. We even purchased a nice 300 Hardtop to get the mint interior and various other trim pieces we needed.

Anyway, Dad suffered a heart attack, and passed away several years later. He had a physical only two weeks prior. He never knew we had purchased the car.

So...my hat is off to you, and I hope you will give us progress reports so we can go along for the ride.
