Post some stripe-delete Z/28s!

Saw a '69 Z/RS on the street the other day. It was Lemans Blue without stripes. I know there are many people who hang the badges on regular Camaros, but this one looked good without stripes. I can only remember one I've seen, and it was a black car. There must be more out there . . . anyone?

I have never heard of a 69 Z without stripes.
Back then, who knows...

Re: Post some stripe-delete Z/28s!

I was thinking of the earlier cars, but that's a nice '70 . . . ok, '70 1/2 for you sticklers!

But what makes it COPO? Merely special-ordering a car doesn't make it COPO . . . at least that's my understanding.

Re: Post some stripe-delete Z/28s!

Pretty sure that homologation-special big 'ol wraparound rear spoiler is what makes it a COPO. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gif

That's the one that I saw! It used to be owned by the guy who runs Heartbeat City.

Car sounds neat (tuff to view photos tho). Any docs on that Z?

Not sure about the docs on that one.

Also, while not a Z remember the SS/RS I just posted from the Adam-12 episode. No factory hockey stripe.. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif

It was possible to order them with "Stripe Delete".

Went to a cruise and saw it today. Approached the owner and he acknowledged it was a stripe delete car - says so right on the data plate! Then he pointed to the 71 71 code. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/rolleyes.gif

Where on the data plate does it tell you stripe delete?

Man, I'm in love that black '70 Z-28 without the stripes. I'd like it even more if didn't have that Firebird rear spoiler and instead had the small one-year only spoiler. They look so much better with the short one.

I'm not a Camaro guy, but I don't think there's a stripe code on Camaros. What he was pointing out as monotone was actually for the roof and body. A two-tone car or a car with vinyl top would not have the repeated paint code.

wow, it is also the rare rear bumper guard delete "option" too ....

Re: Post some stripe-delete Z/28s!

I assume bumper guards were not standard, so I don't know where the sarcasm is coming from? Or am I missing something?

Re: Post some stripe-delete Z/28s!

I believe bumper guards were standard on all 69 Z/28's.

Re: Post some stripe-delete Z/28s!

It is possible that "- -" would indicate stripe delete for 69 and possibly up to 71. Then in 72 trim tags were coded to reflect striping. My 72 Z28 was Mulsanne Blue with blue interior and coded DX3 = Stripe Delete. Also a no spoiler car.. Hoping I'll get this car back some day, Joe? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif

simply following your lead was all my post was about https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif

all solid lifter Z28's (67-72) came standard with the "optional" rear bumper guards ...

so did the stripes

as you have already pointed out his trim tag did not indicate a stripe delete car, it merely pointed out the color of the car

Wasn't aware bumper guards were part of the package. Why did they do that?

al8apex 06-28-2009 07:55 PM

Re: Post some stripe-delete Z/28s!

not sure, but EVERY 67-72 Z28 had them (at least the real ones that GM produced), the thousands of clones/tributes/fakes made since then rarely do, they just put emblems & stripes on ...

The sprung height of a Z28 was differant that the other Camaros and in 68 and 69 the rear's were required by some federal mandate for crash worthiness. That is why they are included.
I am sure others here can explain it much better than that.. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

I've been trying to get my hands on a 70 norwood Z28 that is gold & the tag only has the color code & no stripe #'s after it & no -- . Hey Chuck what do you think of no # after the color code??? The last 70 i ran into on E-bay about 3 years ago had the color code & then a 0 after it.Any thoughts on those differance ?

Not true. Rear bumper guards were not standard on '67 Z-28s. They were available as an option but were not automatically part of the Z-28 package that year. Standard rear bumper guards for the Z began in '68.
