Re: Gasoline Price Range
$1.84 in northern Illinois

Re: Gasoline Price Range
I was paying $6.00/gal for racing gas last summer. When the snow melts Ill be curious to see where it is??
|
Re: Gasoline Price Range
My bad- should have read the high power part, 110 octane is around $4 bucks
|
Re: Gasoline Price Range
Around election time futures were 65.00 a barrel, and gas in L.A. was around 1.70
Now,futures are 40.00 and in L.A. gas is 2.23. Why has it gone up .50 while futures are are down 40% https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif Because we buy most all our oil from the Sand brokers, and export ours.. something fundamentally wrong with that imo https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |
Re: Gasoline Price Range

Re: Gasoline Price Range
I use Max Lead a tetraethyl lead additive I buy for 45.00 a gallon. I add 1 ounce for every gallon of gas and it raises the octane to just over 101. Premium 93 octane is currently selling for 2.06 a gallon and add .35 cents for each ounce of Max Lead, that gives me 101 octane gas with lead in it for 2.41 per gallon.

[/ QUOTE ] Rick...what ever the stock valve seats are, that's what mine are...have had no head or valve work done. Send me a pm of where you get yours from...I was paying 30 bucks a gallon until late last year when my supplier raised his price. I've been buying from Vogel Products in Columbus IN BTW...2.06 for premium was yesterday...went out today and it is 2.15 per gallon. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif |

Re: Gasoline Price Range
By the way, I found diesel at several Hess Stations on Route 1 in North Brunswick, New Jersey at $1.99 last week.
|
Re: Gasoline Price Range
$2.39 for the cheap stuff (87 oct) in my truck this week. There is nothing better than 91 for 35 miles unless you have a friend at the local airport.
|
Re: Gasoline Price Range
Here in Houston:
87 is running about $1.80 Diesel is $1.69 to $2.39. I know where the $1.69 station is and fill up there 2-3 times a week. Sunoco 110 leaded is $52.00 for a 5 gallon bucket. I just bought some for YS-199. |
Re: Gasoline Price Range
I saw $1.78 per gallon for 87 Octane here in Boise, Idaho yesterday.

Re: Gasoline Price Range
I musta just gotten in under the wire, cause that's the same place I bought it from.
http://www.maxlead2000.com I bought 6 gal. for $28 a gal...I run soft valve seats too. I like the new clear pink formula,as that brown crap they use to peddle with the lead particles in it really left a residue, and was inaccurate. |
Re: Gasoline Price Range
256 oz for $45
assuming 93 is $2.00/gal that boosts to 101 @ 2.21/gal compared to +/- $6.00 for racing fuel at the pump!!!! If my math is right thats a h*ll of a deal. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif |
Re: Gasoline Price Range
You're reading that wrong...It starts at $45 for each gal.if you order either one or two.
Three or more gal. & the price drops on each a lil more. Corvette Mike over here carries it too,but they were asking $15 an individual qt.last year when Vogel was asking $7.50 a qt.,but you had to buy at least 4 qts. from Vogel + ship. I don't know what CM is getting for a qt.today. ------------------------ Only true purists run soft valve seats.. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif |
Re: Gasoline Price Range
Vogel won't sell it by the quart...only by the gallon.
|
Re: Gasoline Price Range
It ends up @ $2.42/gal sill looks like a great deal over the $6 racing pump.
|
Re: Gasoline Price Range
I called Vogel products & asked why their prices haven't come down now,as local gas station prices have, because their still asking for roughly $45 a gal.depending on how many you order.
They said they bought mass quanties of product at last Falls extraordinary prices is why...huh? They sell a great product being both an Octane boost & Lead additive for us running soft seats, but that just doesn't make typical business sense to me. I guess they can because they don't have any similar competition to have a price war against.. |
Re: Gasoline Price Range
I know this is about gas prices, but I was wondering if I could ask more about the Max Lead 2000.
In my COPO 427 engine, what octane should I shoot for? Because 12oz of ML2000 will put me at somewhere around 100 octane. If you add 48oz per tank (to get just over 103 octane), if you're averaging out the cost of a gallon, it's obviously going to be much more than what's been stated. Just wondering "what's enough"? |
Re: Gasoline Price Range
2.69 for 93!? today. never saw 93 at that station before. chevelle didn't really notice, it was so happy to get that 30 degree air https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/headbang.gif

[/ QUOTE ] Any idea of exactly what the specs are in your engine? Reason I ask is, "advertised" specs are generally *way* different than "actual" specs once you get out the cc kit...and compression on a typical L72 can be anywhere from high 9:1 to over 12:1 using the exact same part #s, depending on whether the block/heads have been cut, correct piston dome, head gasket height, etc, etc...we rebuilt an L72 one time, used all factory parts, left block alone but just cleaned up the head surface and stuck in the correct TRWs with the .038" FelPro, and it came in at a *whopping* 10.2:1...we ran that thing on straight premium fuel except for the hottest of hot days when we'd add a splash of 110. Our current L72, however, has a little more *pop* to it and requires the good stuff... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif |
Re: Gasoline Price Range
Thanks for the reply, Rob.
Well, I haven't had the block boiled and checked by a machine shop yet, but as far as I could tell, it doesn't need an overbore. I'll probably put a new cam in it. Hopefully I can use the original TRWs again. I hope to keep it to stock configuration. It's an MQ code engine, so I figure it's worth doing so. Plus, that's enough power for me. I didn't realize it would run fine on straight premium. That's good to know. |

[/ QUOTE ] It's definitely possible, and often times will perform better, assuming you've not made some serious cuts on the deck or the heads and you're running the short "stock" TRWs...just check for detonation, or if you want a little breathing room add a splash of 110 or better. |
Re: Gasoline Price Range
I saw $1.95 Diesel in Newark, NJ today. First time in 5 years it was lower than the premium gas price ($1.97).
|
Re: Gasoline Price Range
We had regular & diesel both at $1.79 here last week, which means they were both $1.5x [or cheaper] just east & west of us in southern Missouri.
Diesel was cheaper than regular when we bought our Duramax a few years ago, so we thought we'd be ahead of the game, then within 6 months it jumped up to over .50 more and has been at least that much higher ever since...with it now on par with regular, it makes me wanna get it out of the shop and start putting miles on it again! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/tongue.gif |
Re: Gasoline Price Range
i will be travelling to Latham NY this weekend going thru IN and OH. hows the diesel price along I90 ? anybody live nearby that can give an idea of what to expect ?
|
Re: Gasoline Price Range
Jeff, I'm about 25 miles east of Latham. I fueled up yesterday at a Sunoco station and the diesel was 2.49 a gallon cash price. Credit is a nickel more. Diesel around here right now runs between 2.49 and 2.65 gallon. I hope you have a safe trip.

Re: Gasoline Price Range
