Question about '69 ZL-1 pricing.

Is any one or certain group of these cars that are more valuable than another? Does anyone know the actual selling price of the 'highest seller'? Does it matter who owned it originally? Thanks in advance. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Re: Question about '69 ZL-1 pricing.

Pinnacle has to be "the MAN" Mr. Barnhardt's. So yes, IMHO, as with most cars it DOES matter who owned it (originally and now - which is the same in Mr. Barnhardt's case https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif ). So, an original owner ZL1 is another measure of value too (don't know if there are any other original owner ZL1s https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/hmmm.gif ). Colin Comer's dusk blue ZL1 sold for over $800K (?) in last 18 mos at the Mecum auction.

Yellow ZL1 sold for in the 4's
Blue RS ZL1 sold in the 8's

Thats until the next aucion. Might be 200k by next auction the way the economy is going.

I always figured in the rarity/"gotta-have one" factor though for a car like a ZL-1. A collection of the best Chevy musclecars of all time (or any make for that matter)is not complete without a ZL-1. Some people amass such great collections that they "gotta-have" a ZL-1. Lets face it, there are only some 43? or so known in the world.

If you gotta have a ZL-1, you better buy one when it is available..and you better hope another guy is not at the auction that just "gotta-have" it too!!! There is usually not another one coming up on the block the same day. Unlike most of the musclecars, it may be your only chance for a while.

I think the owner of the 2 ZL-1's may have made a mistake by selling two at the same time. I would have sold the yellow car first...and then at a different time/auction sold the blue car...jmo

Less face it, a lot of people have in recent years spent way more for a car than what it was really worth.
If only I could tell the furure https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gif

Has Reggie owned more than just the #51 ZL-1, which he sold? Does he own one now? His reputation now seems to be that of a pretty savvy buyer/collector rather than a Goldberg like flash in the pan

Re: Question about '69 ZL-1 pricing.

Who knows what anything is worth now. I remember back in about 91 ? ZL1's had been at 250K but there was a orange one in Hemmings that finally sold for I think 75 or 80K. I just had to have a 69 COPO back in 90. I paid 45K for it, spent another 60K restoring it and ended up trading it toward a ZL1 project that was priced at 100K. I was allowed I think 60K for the COPO. This recession seems alot worse than that one so who really knows where car prices will end up at. I don't think either of the 68 Yenko projects have sold.

You can look at the two ZL1's that sold at auction as a bad decision or you can look at he big picture. He had 22 cars to sell and sold them all in 2 hours. He averaged them all together and the bottom line he was very happy with. I think he had paid 200 or 250K for the yellow one and 275K for the blue RS. It wasn't that long ago that those were the prices. Reggie had two white ZL1's and a orange one. He sold one white one to Dave Fluke that he still has and enjoys and I think he still has the orange one and a white one.

You might also want to figure in the sale of #1 within the last year(?) or so...

Re: Question about '69 ZL-1 pricing.

So it seems the very, very limited cars like the ZL1, 429 Boss and the 427 Cobra are going to stay in a league of their own. Does the fact that there were only two racers given a ZL1 add any value to theirs?

Re: Question about '69 ZL-1 pricing.

I was told a "survivor" car just sold for 1.3...??

so Ive heard https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

..and it was sold by a known collector...

Has anyone else heard that?

Like Charley said, I believe the prices are all over the place !! I grew up with the Hemmings car that was advertised locally first for 100, and eventually I could have had it for 69k...That was Don Johnsons car, it was a real nice orange driving ZL-1 !!! I wanted to buy that car badddddd, but since I already spent what then was my life savings (and our house money) on my ZL-1, my wife said NO-WAY!!!...I grew up with that orange car in the neighborhood all my life !! I always wanted it.!!

Woulda..coulda...

BTW...I swear the buyer stole the blue car for 800...

Re: Question about '69 ZL-1 pricing.

Pretty funny when I was told the RS ZL1 had paint work !!
I know someone who went over that car with a fine tooth comb. Maybe that person can tell us what they found with their paint gauge.. In my mind, this is the #1 ZL1 to own !!
I have sold(BROKERED)over 10 ZL1's and this is by far the Rarest ZL1 to own.. If somebody restored this to the EYECANDY that everybody likes to see, it would smoke everything out there. MY OPINION !!!

I think the 1.3 million was a little while back, I know this cause I put the two together.. I heard one sold a couple of months ago. But I didnt hear that price.

In the SuperCar world the ZL1 is a must for any collector.

Too bad we don't all have crystal balls. I'd take brass actually! But wouldn't it have been fun to, on a whim, have taken a chunk out of the mkt. and put it in a nice ZL1 six months ago!!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/frown.gif
