1969 COPO 427 engine

I am currently looking at a 1969 COPO engine and I need help with some information. First is it possible to have a block cast date of January, head cast date of March, and an intake cast date of March, but the build date be April? It is a 512 block with an MQ code. What else should I look for to verify it's authenticity? Please help me with any info you can give me.

I unfortunately I do not have a pic of the pad, but he info reads T0410MQ 19B375xxx. Hopefully this helps. Would a picture show anything in particular?

My MN COPO block was cast on Jan. 27 of '69 and was assembled on March 18 and went into a car that was built in the last week of May.

I thought the heads were cast 1-3 months before the block but not I'm sure. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Jeff,
Do you have any interest to sell that Yenko Chevelle Block?

Thanks for the info and the pictures. Can you tell me if your build date and vin stamp are both on the front pad of the engine?
The responses I have gotten are truely awesome. I greatly appreciate the information.

In his case yes they are.

Re: 1969 COPO 427 engine

But, is it possible for the vin to be stamped on the pad above the oil filter? If so, is there an approximate date when they changed the vin stamping location?
Thanks.

Re: 1969 COPO 427 engine

It is both a timing and a plant issue as Chevelles were built at several Plants. That early Yenko Block is correct. I'm certain that some of the Chevelle Guys can Chime in and help with the specifics.

Here is the best picture I have of the front engine pad. Please give me your thoughts. I know it is not the best but any info you can give me will be very helpful.

Re: 1969 COPO 427 engine

I'm no COPO expert, but that VIN does correlate with Baltimores build out schedule for April 1969.
Although the orange paint set in the font stampings would indicate the short block was repainted at least a second time after initial asssembly.
Is that threaded head plug overshadowing the Tonawanda stamping or is that just a bad camera angle?

I would like to thank everyone who has given me some responses to all of my questions. You have been very helpful and I look forward to getting more information from you as my project progresses. This is one membership that is worth being a part of and you will see me listed as a member soon. I still need many part numbers and info on the L72 engine so any additional info you have keep it coming.
