Value of a block

What would be the value of a 68 Nova MQ block. std bore. Ballpark figure would be great. Thanks, Darrell

Re: Value of a block

A lot of dough to the right person....maybe you should post the vin or perhaps have folks PM you for it. There were very few L78 Novas produced in 1968 so this is a rare piece.

I am not with the block. I will be in a week or so and I will pm the vin if someone is interested.

Re: Value of a block

And you're sure it's a Nova Vin and not a more common Camaro Vin which used the same suffix?.

Re: Value of a block

The nova got the 440 block from what I have seen. The camaro block most the time is a 323. I think this because the late timing of the BB nova's The 323 block was used from 6-67 to 2-68 and I think all nova's were built after that date using the 440 . Re: Value of a block

I got pictures of the pad but my camera would not focus in on the small stampings (figures). I did however get other pics of the block.

The Pad stamping is T0607MQ
The VIN stamping is 18W380749
The date on the block is D25 8
The casting of the block is "440" (of course hence the date code)

Now for pictures. If anyone is seriously interested you can pm me and we can discuss a price. Also yes the block is rusty but I can assure you the cylinders, cam & crank bearing areas are in great shape. Later, Darrell

Dang not my block! The vin number has me confused? My vin on my May 31, 1968 built car is 34683x. This car was most likely a mid June built car and the vin is 380479. Did they make this many car's in this short period of time?

Re: Value of a block

To my knowledge there were only 608 MQ Novas built in 68. But I do not know that for certain.

Re: Value of a block

There were 667 L78 Novas built....50 were the Gibb cars (TH400) and the balance were 4 speeds. So that comes out 617 4 spd. L78 Novas. By any calculation...they are rare https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif

Jason, I think the car would be later than that. My 68 is an 07B car and is 374318 so this one would be later in July or an August car. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif

Tommy,
I think you are correct! But why would the motor be stamped June 6th on the engine pad. I would think if this was a July car the engine pad would be a July date? I really don't know how this work's maybe someone can explain? Is this common to have a block casted for the end of April then stamped with a June date and put in a July car https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Very possible, given the late introduction of the option. Blocks are cast in preparation, eventually orders are placed, and engines start working through the system.

In the engine pad picture, the camera focused on the floor. Trying using the macro mode (little flower button) and keeping more of the pad in the screen. That should help a lot! I'd be interested in a pic of the pad if you can get a better one.
Thanks!

Our 68 L78 Nova is a 7A car and the engine stamp is June 10th.....it matches the POP. Our 1st week car is about 4,000 cars behind Tommy's VIN. So, a July car can have a June engine date....

I understand what you are saying and I will get another pic once I go back down again. But I can tell you the block is 100% legit. We have owned the block for almost 20yrs. But yes I will get a good pic of the pad in the next couple of weeks since it is at my parents home in TN and I am in KY.

Re: Value of a block

All the 68 Gibb cars are May blocks, June stamp and July trim tags. I see nothing wrong with this block.

Re: Value of a block

Checked our 440 L78 block.... 5/31/68 casting date...June stamp 6-10-68.
