Hemmings Muscle Machines Musclecar of the Year

If you're totally bored with the regular presidential politics and voting decisions, feel free to go to this website and place your vote for whichever car you like.

http://www.hemmings.com/mmoy/

And no, I didn't just post this because my car is one of the nominees. It's my wife's fault, she made me do it...yeesh, I'm sounding like Bill Clinton already.

I'm NJSteve and I approved this message. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Hmm, a lot of nice cars there, including Sam Griffith's Savoy. And an original owner, untouched L78 Camaro.

Steve, your car is in some fine company there! And deservedly so I might add. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Like I posted on TC, I like the Hornet, the Savoy, the Tempest wagon, the T-bolt, and the wood-clad 429 Ranchero.

I'm like different, stuff you don't see everyday.

Maybe Ill vote 5 times??? Ach!!! That wouldnt help the eventual outcome a bit. Gonna have to think about this.........Bill S

To each his own, but to vote for a replica/clone over an original owner survivor (real L78)?? My vote is for the survivor hands down. Although I'm kinda biased towards the unrestored survivors https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif Just doesn't get any better!

Steve you need to look at the whole picture. What looks better a fresh restored or a Unrestore? I know the 1968 Z/28 Camaro Convertible has got alot more public attention. One {Goodguys Muschttp://i329.photobucket.com/albums/l...1/100_4245.jpgle Car of the Year Award}, Two {Hemming Muscle Machine Award} L@@K

Its interesting that over 10% of your posts have been pumping up and promoting this car.
As for this statement:
"What looks better a fresh restored or a Unrestore? I know the 1968 Z/28 Camaro Convertible has got alot more public attention."

My preference has always been unrestored survivors, however a close second is a correctly restored real car. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gif

I agree on {{ Un. & Restored }} original cars, those are the ones to vote on, and support...If anything , a class for << clone or such >>we vote on differently..

It's a Dam shame when you got to a show and a clone win's over original car's, No way is that right, I can also go a step further to say the same for driven car's to trailer Queen's. but ** Real vs Made up ++, No, for voting them top Muscle car.....Kasey

"What looks better a fresh restored or a Unrestore?"

Well.........if we were comparing an original muscle car to a custom resto-mod ( I believe that is the correct term for the 68Z28, not a fresh restore) I would have to say the orginal factory muscle car with all it's original muscle equipment is more of a candidate for Muscle car of the year.
http://cll.hemmings.com/story_image/109266-500-0.jpg

I am also sure the Z28 is entitled to awards in it's own class.

However, Hemmings seems to leave the door open for anything...."So how do we determine which cars get to show up on the ballot? Several criteria are considered, the most obvious being the condition of the car. But then, we tend not to feature cars that aren't quite nice, so that doesn't always help all that much. The rarity of a certain car can factor in if other elements are in order, and sometimes just the story behind a featured muscle machine might sway us. Feedback from the readership in the form of e-mails and letters after the story on a particular car comes out can also have an influence.

The 12 cars from the 2008 issues we've published so far this year exemplify the range of reasons that land a feature car on the MMOY ticket, with some concours-restored cars, an original unrestored example, some factory skunk works specials, a couple drag racers, and even a never-was creation.

very well put frank261 when you said"Can't we just get along and appreciate and respect each other TOYS"

us having different opinions is the whole beauty of this site!!!

i respect everybody's opinion here!

i dont frequent this site as much as others.but i do check in every once in a while...and when i do,it seems my car keeps coming up on here.....not necesarily in a negative way,but not usually positive either.

i would like to thank my P R person frank 261...lol....

everytime my car receives an award, whether its locally or nationally,it has been a bumpy ride! many many opinions, comments and views.....it has been a learning experience for me.i have met many great people.some very high profile.....

my car was nominated for the goodguys musclecar of the year award and hemmings muscle machine award not by me,but by our fellow car brothers and sisters.we all know cars.....we should all learn from eachother....

we all have our own opinions or idea's of what the best muscle car or muscle machine may be...

and we all shall respect eachothers opinions.....

the muscle machine nomination and the muscle car nomination will be very very interesting to see the outcome......this may give all of us an idea of what the general car enthusiasts considers to be the ultimate muscle machine.

lets respect their opinion as well....

John.............

I voted for Jim Houses original 69 Camaro SS L78 with 22,000 original miles. I was fortunate to see the car in person and it is a time capsule. He is the original owner of this beauty and it had to be real hard to hold onto this car for all these years. How many did and how many wish they held onto one of there original muscle cars? He also drives the car to all the local shows! Don’t get me wrong I like the concourse show cars but they are really 2 different classes in my opinion. But when it comes down to the muscle car of the year it is up to the public. Just my 2 cent’s!

What is a Huffy Rail Ridder anyway? Do you mean a Huffy Rail rider, i.e. you ride an old 1960's Huffy Rail Chopper style bicycle? Or do you rid the world of Huffy Rail Chopper bicycles?

You mean the City Slicker? Was that the neat extra shifter handle that activated the rear brake to leave a big black patch of rubber on the street?

I restored mine myself. There are rather easy to do. I used a wire brush and drill to strip the frame. The main expense was rechroming and polishing the stainless. As for paint, it turned out that when the paint store did the photo analysis of the color, it was a dead on match for 1970 International Truck Schoolbus Yellow. I had them make it up into individual spray cans since I don't have a spray gun or compressor. There are a lot of people reproducing the decals and graphics for these bikes. But remember before removing or disassembling anything, always take a ton of photos, especially of any graphics. Place a ruler next to the decals in the photo - so you can blow the photo back up to the right size if you're having a decal maker reproduce them for you.

Let's see the bike! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

Frank, do the Huffy's have a single color or does it fade from one color to another like the photo above?

(Huffys were cool, my little brother had one)

Re: Hemmings Muscle Machines Musclecar of the Year

I read Steve's post right after he had written it. I remembered reading about his awesome car, so I decided to vote for it. After going to Hemmings and scrolling down to find his car, I saw my car. I recognized it immediately LOL. I told my wife about it and she jokingly said that I should vote for my own car. That way I wouldn't get skunked. Sorry Steve, I did vote for my own car. I'm proud to think that the Hemmings editors thought enough of my car to nominate it. Every one of the cars on the list deserves to be there. I wish I could vote for every one of them. Whether the cars are original, restored or manufactured, everyone of them is beautiful in its own unique way. Even though Chevrolet is my favorite, I still like the other manufacturers also. It would be a boring world if we couldn't race and beat the other manufacturers with our Chevrolets. Car owners are proud of their cars or they wouldn't keep them in the condition that they do. Hemmings chose this group of cars because they thought they were the best choice from each magazine. The Ranchero was at Musclepalooza on Sunday. Although I did not get to talk to the owner, he keeps the car in beautiful shape. I was glad that I got a chance to see it. As for my car(the one I was only going to keep for a year) I'm awfully glad that I hung onto it so that the people who weren't there could see how they were originally built. No matter which car wins, it will be the people's choice and good luck to all.
Jim
