Phase III GT trivia
 

Trying to come up with the 10-12 Phase III GTs produced from 69-71 excluding the prototype. Here is what I've come up with so far and any help would be appreciated:

1969 Orange (L Clain) - stolen
1969 Orange at CT auction 3/08
1969 Gold w/ black stripes (internet pics on supercar.net)
1969 Blue w/ white stripes (D Dodd SC2)
1969/70 Red w/ black stripes (EBAY sale this yr)
1970 Yellow w/ blk stripes (Rosen then McMichael)
1970 White w/ gold stripes (L Clain) - stolen
1971 Gold w/ blk stripes (HP2 selling currently)

Can anyone help me fill in the blanks? Thanks

Second owner. Have all documentation. Extremely rare. Ready to restore. Original paint was white with black wave, but it is orange now. Jacksonville, FL. Any interest?

I personally saw a Pearl yellow and black Phase III GT at Motion Performance shortly after the New York auto show in 1969. I don't know if it's one of the ones listed but, I don't recall ever seeing any recent pictures of the car.

I understand that there were two. BTW I love your car, and business is looking better, I'd love to scrap enough cheese together and buy that bad boy. I love that car.

I don't think the 1969 Orange one at CT auction is a Phase III GT but is a Phase III.

In my opinion a Phase III GT needs to have both the Ferrari nose and rear window modificaton.

If you are counting all Motion modified Corvettes there is a bunch that have been found over the years.

I have about 20 Corvettes in my Motion notes.
some Phase III GTs, some Phase IIIs, some are just Corvettes with a Motion hood, 2 are Motion IMSA wide bodies.
Some built new by Motion, some shop built on used cars, some documented, some not, etc.

Each car has it’s own story

This is not counting the Motion Maco Sharks. There is maybe 20 Maco type Corvettes on http://www.makoshark2.com/index.php

I think only one is documented as MP built.
Some were Motion kits others may be from Silva

Thanks Joe. Good catch on the orange CT car. Looked at pics more closely and saw the rear window was stock. Just looking for info on the GTs built by Motion. Comments suggest 9 so far incl the white/blk and yellow pearl/blk. Still missing 3

I believe the rear window makes the GT and Phase III is your top option under the hood. Hence the possibility of the small block GT. ( I think its red and black striped)

The first GT (Larry Clain's stolen car pictured above)did not have a "ferrari" style nose.

The headlight modification may not have been available when the first prototype was built but here is a quote from Cars Magazine on the GT “the exterior comes stock with full fastback rear window functional hood and side scoops, special tail and blinkers, faired in headlights, quick fill gas cap, striping and flared wheel wells. And the list goes on.”

Heard from a good source that the early Phase III GTs did NOT have the nose and tail lights. They did have scooped hoods, side gills, fastback windows, LeMans fuel fillers and Phase III striping. Later cars got the nose and tail treatments. Some had headlight covers, some didnt. Tail treatments had two or three slits

He said the car at CT auction is a REAL GT with the fastback window. Car is being restored and owner has proof and history to car.

He also pointed out that each Baldwin-Motion car was slightly different and except for Joel Rosen's Demo cars, every car was built to the purchaser's order.

i think that brings the count to 10 so still looking for info on the missing two

Joel himself said only 10 were built. Including the prototype and a yellow 70 that burned to the ground on the dealership lot.

Adam, not sure what your source is talking about.
The 1969 Orange one at CT auction in the pictures has stock back window, stock tail lights, and no GT emblems.

Which car (except for the prototype) are they saying does not have the headlight modification?
I know of 3 more in addition to the 10 mentioned here that claim to be Motion Phase III GTs. All the ones I have info on have the headlight modification (except for the prototype)

Also know of a white one and a red one that look like Motion Phase III GTs but owners say they are home built. Not including these 2 cars in the 13 cars mentioned above.

These 13 are not all documented cars. Some of this info is just from the owners so hard to say how accurate it is. have pictures of most of them but some are probably not Motion built if Joel has said there are only 10.

Is there any more info or pictures on this white 71?

I retract this statement.. I was quoting old info.. Marty told me the official word is their best guess is between 10-12 real Phase III GTs were made. Since some of their records have been lost we may never really know exactly. He did say most of the real ones have been accounted for tho. Hopefully his book will tell the whole story and finally put to rest all the controversy around these GTs.

Look for this one at Corvettes at Carlisle from Corvette Repair. This might be wrong but I think he was restoring one and cloning another. Which this is, who knows?
