1964 Corvette Coupe Fuel Injected
I recently had purchased this 64 injected coupe. It's a lifelong southern CA car then spent the last 40+ years sitting at (or behind) a Corvette shop in Paramount, CA.
Obviously, it has seen better days. It is a wonderfully solid car. Unhit body, original black on black car, with most of it's original mechanical components (one cylinder head and rear diff, expansion tank, alternator, and starter have been replaced) These are some pics before I got it home......... https://i.imgur.com/biorQZR.jpg https://i.imgur.com/vFAHEgc.jpg https://i.imgur.com/aC01wBX.jpg https://i.imgur.com/cnPafGq.jpg |
I've already done the brakes, and now I'm getting after the drivetrain to refresh that. I'll replace all of the wiring, heater core, bushings (as necessary), and then drive the crap out of this thing. I am not doing one cosmetic improvement! This may prove to be the most enjoyable car I have had:)

I love it. Congrats!
|
I put the correct 6.70-15's on the car for the "look". Pulled the fuel unit to send that out for rebuilding and hot testing before I screw that on a fresh rebuild......

Congratulations, what an awesome car!!!!
|
I continue to be amazed at what is still out there. Glad to see it end up in good hands.
|
Looks like a great project, looking forward to seeing the progress on this one.
|
Amazing. Guy here in town has a 64 FI coupe he bought new.
|
Love it Tim-congrats!!:headbang:
I wonder-Could this be the same car that was in a fenced area off of Valley View Rd in Stanton, Ca. 1978-79? I worked in high school as a night delivery manager for the Orange County Register newspaper from 2am to 6am-and the building was right next door. The same guy also had a 1957 Belair Fuelie and some other cool cars. Hmmm... |
----Great find! Was the car ordered with KO's? I noticed one pic with a rally wheel. I also saw what appears to be the original 375hp decal on the valve cover. Amazing that it has survived. Do you think you can bring the paint back at all?......Bill S
|
Tim, I'm glad that cosmetically you're not going to do anything to the car. I hope to see it someday.
|
Wow! Nice car. Was this car on the Los Angeles Craigslist a few months ago?
|
Lucky man!
|
Great find. Looks like it has had the FI unit replaced with a 65 7017380 unit?

The car does not have the decal by the jacking instructions, so I suspect not original to the car. They are original wheels though. I was playing with some #7 on the paint. There may be some life left there. |

I am awaiting a call from a previous owner. I know the car was flipped twice in 2020. The owner who stored the car at John's Fuel Injection Service in Paramount traveled a ton. John had passed away (2020) after his battle with cancer. The shop was then cleaned out and the car was sold. It is speculated that owner was the son of the original owner. I'll post updates on that as I get them. The car was originally sold at Hovey-Dallas Chevrolet Gardena, CA https://i.imgur.com/mUWeEsEh.jpg |
Nice to see it end up with someone who cares about it.

Congratulations Tim!! Nice find! That'll be a cool car. I like that your just doing the mechanics on the car and fixin' what needs fixin'. Leave the body like you said. You'll enjoy it more since it's not restored. There was a guitar player for a somewhat famous band that I worked with for a little while. He had an early Corvette (I think a '65) that he had everything gone through underneath and left the body and interior alone. It was cool.

Killer 64. I love the fact that it was at the beginning of when Chevy started stamping the vin# on the fuel units. I believe it was right around VIN# 14,000 that they started doing this. The early stamps were in the front of the plenium after that it was on the right rear like the 1965 fuellys. Great Stuff!!! |
Got after the 64 again today starting to get things tore down some more (waiting for parts on another car).
The infamous wire pigtail in the port witness mark.... https://i.imgur.com/rOaLEMQh.jpg What looks to be the original water pump? If I remember correctly, there was a period in time they were not dated? https://i.imgur.com/MXhyAvFh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/V9wLKA8h.jpg Glad I elected to just take it apart..... https://i.imgur.com/XxsyDEah.jpg https://i.imgur.com/uHd4ubih.jpg Junk original radiator..... https://i.imgur.com/UbOEcAFh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/yTcAXl9h.jpg I suspect this is a bit outdated. Ironically, for the car last registered in 77, this alarm is dated 1982 https://i.imgur.com/ZiSbwX0h.jpg |
Congrats Tim...that care is awesome!!!
|
Tim shoots... he scores!!!
Congrats on finding a car with such incredible character. I’ll bet that will be a terrific driver. |

I think I'll have the motor out today or tomorrow |
That water crossover photo has left me with a sudden craving for pico de gallo . . . .
|
My Dad was around this weekend, so I put him to work for a little bit. Shocking what he'll do from some free beer! We snatched the motor out so I can get cooking. Hard to believe he and I have been doing this for over 40 years.
https://i.imgur.com/q4ZK13xh.jpg Started busting the motor down today and getting ready for the machine shop. The bores measure out at .030 over and still appear to have a good cross hatch. Dummy me neglected to take a pic or two of the bores........ https://i.imgur.com/U9j0sH4h.jpg yuck........ https://i.imgur.com/d4MYlIkh.jpg Not surprised how this looks https://i.imgur.com/3Kh75iuh.jpg This wouldn't bother me if it was on cylinder 6, not #8 https://i.imgur.com/3PTWfOah.jpg Nice original F.I. exhaust manifolds https://i.imgur.com/DoXqp07h.jpg https://i.imgur.com/L6NSxAzh.jpg Now, climb the mountain of parts to clean........ https://i.imgur.com/RmRQlkRh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/ZYbl4bHh.jpg |
This is what we need right now to go along with the Crusty Cuda thread. Love these build threads.
|
Nice pad, Tim.
|

Dang that is one sweet Corvette... got my name all over it ;-)
So cool to see guys working on cars with their dads! |
Nice progress. Boy those fluids are gross.
|
Nice to see your dad in there, still keeping an eye on you.

I sent the F.I. unit out to a fellow by the name of Ken Hansen in TN. He hot tests, dyno's, and road tests the units on a mule car. Everything is set up for monitoring A/F ratio's on the car. I've ridden my sled once this year for not even 5 miles. Not much snow (at least for me). Normally.......Dad, Tracey and I would have been out on the sleds this time of year. Now we are just relegated to beers and BS. |

Tim, I'm sure you know this but it bears repeating. A recent post on the NCRS site from a Dallas member shows before and after shot of his engine after the rebuilder screwed up and decked the block. This happened last October after he made sure the shop knew not to deck the block. Get them to confirm that they will not deck that block under any circumstances.
