It's not much to look at these days. Sat in various storage places since 1980, but got painted RG prior to that. PA car all of its life. Was disassembled by a local professional body man (worked at local Chevy dealer for many years). Car is mostly there, plus he collected LOTS of extra parts. GM quarters (nicely installed), 2 new doors (plus original doors & 2 very nice used doors), new fenders & valences, etc.
I bought the car from 2 great car guys who have been chasing it since they first saw it in Leola, PA when it was nearly new (one of their friends actually looked at it on the new car lot). They helped me trace the history back to the gentleman (Rick) pictured below holding his pictures that I posted earlier. Rick worked at the York track back in the early 70s and raced the car extensively there. He said that his beast time was 10.97 with headers & slicks. I am only missing one owner's name (owned it for 2 years) since Rick sold the car in 1975. I am obviously struggling to get these pictures oriented correctly!!!! |

Great pics. Love the vintage shots..

Very cool find Bruce! Original drivetrain?
Congrats on another find... Dan |
You should start a thread in the COPO section
|
Very cool and very rare--but you already knew that! Could this be the only Butternut COPO?
|
Thanks Darrell for straightening out the pictures! To my knowledge, there are 2 butternut yellow '69 COPO Camaros. This is the only one with X11 D80. The drivetrain is supposedly "out there". It was removed & stored back in the day, around the time when the restoration was started - then abandoned. Never reportedly broken. Although the 4.10s were replaced with 4.56 in the early 70s. We're tracking it down, but I have no assurances at this time. The car raced with a TH400 (original 4 speed) - so the original trans may not be with the engine & rear.
|
Not the only one. The reason I asked about a Ohio connection is.... there is one local to me that was lettered up and raced early on. I saw it restored years ago and have lost track of it. I do have pictures of it and a pair of other COPOS from the same show at NRP.
Congrats on the score! BIG |
Very cool find. If anyone can find the original engine, I'd bet on you.
Jason |
I only know of 2 BY cars. The Proudt car and this car (assuming it's 05E).
The trans was stolen in 99 or thereabouts, btw. |
Yes, the one I mentioned is the Prout car...

Did it have a vinyl top ? Mike |
No, not that I recall. I'll dig out the pics. I believe I have the cowl tag too.
BIG |
Kurt - yes, this is the 05E car. The BY Proudt car is in our registry - 9N625106.

Prout car...a.k.a Hermans Toy
BIG |
.... Great find .... that will be one nice Copo when finished :headbang:
|
Thanks!
This car was called "Phase III". You can see it on the hood in one of the pictures. |
and I think I see an accent stripe on the "Phase lll"
|
Yup, those are the only 2 I know of. I like BY on a 69 - a different look for sure!
BIG, Can you send me the cowl tag pic if you find it? Thanks! |
It's on film....very tough to read. Remember those days...? :smirk: I used film for way longer than I should have. I'll see if I can blow it up and get documental info.

Like the rake on this car in this photo. Looks like it is ready to POUNCE! (nice tires and wheels too!).....
|
Way cool Bergy !
|
Bruce
Love BY, Would look cool with a black hockey stripe Berger style  And if you want to make a killer day two car I might know an guy that would make a good tech rep to guide you along the way...just a thought..:cool2: |
I am thinking of a mild "day 2" restoration with headers, track bars, electric exh. cut outs, etc. Grady, I'm coming after you & that beautiful burnished brown beast! Mike - I'll get it mostly together & we'll talk - thanks for the offer.
|
Bruce
Just to be clear, the day two guru I was suggesting is Grady not me, this day two stuff is hard  The cutouts are a blast, I have had fun with mine, like when a car with fart cans comes blasting by. Mike |
Congratulations, what a great car. Will look killer in BY with some day 2 additions.
|
Very cool car
|
Leola PA ? Damn, less than 5 minutes from me !!!
|
|
Well you know I like BY don't you Bruce? LOL
Gotta come over and check this thing out soon for sure. Received my scoring sheet from Legends so will be talking soon. |
