1969 black 375 M22 4:10 cowl hood

Congratulation to Doug Perry! After a year of negotiation my buddy was able to purchase an amazing car; 1969 SS, equipped with a 375 hp 396, M22, 4:10 and a cowl hood.

It gets better;
the one owner car is still rolling on it’s original tires, with black XT wheels, original paint, original interior with a delete radio, original engine that has never been removed, original smog, original exhaust and original shocks!

Wait it gets even better;
the car has its original POP, window sticker, build sheet (very few have been found on Norwood built cars), and invoice. The invoice shows the car was ordered with a delete heater. Unfortunately in 1969 the heater became mandatory.

If that is not enough, the car has its original 10 day 1969 dealership tag!

Doug has some amazing cars, this is another special car that fits very well in his collection.

The car will be shown for the first time at MCACN in Steve Shauger’s Vintage Certification display.

This car is one of those special cars that you here about but are rarely found. Well this car will be Vintage Certified at MCACN show in November. We are very excited to have this special car attend. The original owner had the car until a month or so ago when Doug took possession. The owner was a fanatic about preserving the car and it shows.... Congratulations Doug!!!!

Congratulations, Doug. I'm looking forward to checking it out at MCACN.

Get your camera phones and note pads ready fellas this one will teach you a few things about 1969 Norwood Camaro production. I had the opportunity to see the car in person (including all the cars original factory and dealer paperwork ) you guys are in for a treat. The car has a documented 9500 original miles and it shows. It will most definitely be used in the future as a reference for how 69 Camaros were built in Norwood. Look forward to seeing the car again in Chicago.

Can’t wait to see this car at MCACN!!

Copo_Cartel 10-19-2022 12:10 PM

This cars history and journey started way before I came along. My job is to honor the original owner...his wife and the car. It is a treat to be able to share it with others and get better acquainted with Norwood’s assembly processes. I am surrounded by good people as we all are. Thank you to Paul Laurenzi (Hugger SS) for introducing me to the owner almost a year ago. Special thanks to Amy, Frank, Matt, Matt, Austin and Ely. Affectionately we will call the car “Black Betty” . Safe Travels .

sixt9rsx33 10-19-2022 12:27 PM

Wow!! Can't wait to see this car.

HuggerSS 10-19-2022 07:05 PM

The statement that it is only original once refers to this car! This car is one of the few bench mark 1st generation Camaro’s. All of the parts are original to the car, even the tires and exhaust!

The original owner obviously did his homework before buying this car! He checked off all of the right boxes; 396/375, M22, 4:10, F41 suspension, quick ratio steering and a cowl hood. If that is not enough, the car is Tuxedo Black! No console or radio, if did not make the car go faster or handle better it was not ordered!

The new caretaker Doug (Doug always refers to himself as the “new caretaker” because in Dougs eyes, it will always be the original owners car), is always open to sharing his knowledge and his cars to help with the hobby and its growth.

I am looking forward to seeing it displayed in Chicago for the first time in 53 years!

Doug was challenged to bring a car to MCACN in 2022, I would say he met and exceeded the challenge!

Congrats Doug and Paul, can't wait to see it next month!

Me too!

R68GTO 10-19-2022 10:39 PM

What’s the build date of the car?

60sStuff 10-19-2022 11:27 PM

I’d love to see this “show and tell” in person.

For guys like me and I’m sure many others that are not able to attend MCACN to enjoy the Best of the Best in a Survivor car, will we all eventually get to see this car in nice quality photos here on the Yenko site?

Thanks, Chris.

Charley Lillard 10-20-2022 12:05 AM

Does it have red hockey stripes ? Will be interesting to see the black paint on the tail panel. Can't wait.

Copo_Cartel 10-20-2022 12:30 AM

The car is 02D build date and 604xxx vin. number. After we clean the prom Queen up...we will provide some photos. I promised the owner to give the car the respect that it deserves. The hockey stripe is red.

R68GTO 10-20-2022 12:47 AM

Very cool. Wasn't planning to go to MCACN this year but between this car and Dave B.'s Yenko, might have to make the trip.

The rear tail pan is definitely different in color.

Steve Shauger 10-20-2022 07:04 PM

Charley continues to believe its the same as exterior paint. It's not full gloss like exterior black 70%ish. I'm sure he'll be bugging me at the show. 35 years we've debated this:scholar::beers:

Now that's just cruel:drool:

Charley Lillard 10-20-2022 08:18 PM

Not saying it is the same. Saying it is gloss while most restos do satin.

luzl78 10-20-2022 09:00 PM

Doesn’t one of the painters at Norwood remember what sheen he painted? I know it’s 53-55 years ago but someone should remember. If it was gloss it was gloss. If it was satin it was probably waxed over the years to appear gloss.

I had Jason paint my Monte satin.

LOL this ole argument again?
If Charley passed away today.

bcmiller 10-20-2022 11:32 PM

The debate will never end.

Amount of sheen on the rear panel blackout varied, due to many factors. It’s the same paint as the rockers.

At least for 1968 it was “supposed to be” 30 percent gloss. No reason to think 1969 was different.

So when you are restoring your car, all you have to do is find out what the temperature was that day. Or if you can't narrow it that tight, temp. during that week. And Bingo, Bob's your Uncle. And Robert's your Dad's brother... Danny

Really looking forward to seeing pics of this.

CL was born in '53? I thought he was a lot older than that.

They still taped off the tailpanel, so the paint difference will be apparent at the tape line.
There are other black original paint 396 cars out there, with pics on this site, IIRC. :)

I age faster because of babysitting this site and it's idiot's.
