Mark Bulaw Collection
If there are lurkers out there waiting for the finest original '69 Z/28 money can buy, three of them will be at Mecum Indy.
Sad situation. |
Yes they are and they should break world records for original, un-restored 1969 Z-28's. As I have stated here in the past, Mark's 1969 Azure Turquoise Z-28 is probably the finest, original , un-restored collector car I have ever had the honor to work on, what a piece of history. Thank You Mark, and great success to you and your family now and in the future. Bill.

10 or so years ago. Again, all the best to Mark and his family.... |
Is the HO RS an original VE3 car?

More info on the Azure Turquoise car. It used to have a 406 small block with a crossram in it when owned by Larry Webb and for awhile it was running with a 65 Corvette Fuel Injection unit. Also had a cowl induction hood, Chambered exhaust with 73-4 Trans Am Super Duty Muffler and Trans Am tips. Paint blend on a spot of rear drivers 1/4 where a buffer got dropped on it. Drivers door skin installed by Dick Tutino of ZL1 # 27 fame. Needed the door skin when it accidentally rolled back into something when left idling. Also had a Trans Am steering wheel on it. Had no smog pump, just the manifolds. Miles are real. Larry Webb shipped the orig. flat hood to Bulaw and I'm told Bulaw rebuilt and installed the orig. engine.

While I am not a fan at all of the 1969 body, I certainly appreciate an unrestored more than anything else, be it date coded/time period correct as it’s only original once. Also, it confirms questions I have about certain pieces.

I saw the azure car the year I got to go to MCACN. Stunning car

How is the lemans blue rs z28? Sure looks nice from the photos
Matt |
i understand that mecum also took all the parts that mark had.......are they being auctioned as well or sold privately?
sorry to see this end this way - many condolences to mark and recovery and his family.....one of finest knowledgeable people we have in the industry. |
Mark's impressive Parts collection is now live on the Mecum.com site:

Interesting, this is only 1/5th of his collection of parts - unless he sold off alot of stuff prior to this.
Cool stuff on the Mecum site |
Amazing how many sets of door weatherstrip there is.
|
And Air Cleaners too.
|
Appears to be more from this collection being auctioned in July...

----I spent about 40 minutes looking at all Mark's stuff on display at Mecum Indy. If anyone wants correct and perfect 69 Camaro standard door panels make sure to get your bid in. Several were perfect and several more had relatively small problems along the bottom edge. They make repops look so wrong. Every thing there was rare, rare. rare and looking at the pics here not everything was brought to Indy!....Bill S

I thought that some of the parts sold very reasonably. Mark's collection has great parts. Can't wait to see what his cars go for!
How is Mark doing? |
I tried to register to bid with mecum on line. Everything works fine until it asks for my CC security code. It will not accept any numbers.
|
I had some luck on buying a set of cyl heads. Door panels, x ram hood, nos cowl hood and a few other goodies.
His cars looked very nice. Matt |

Wonder why the orange car was more than the blue rs ? I didn’t spend a lot of time looking at them but the blue one looked a lot nicer
Matt |
I thought the parts had some good buys in them. Unless you wanted Z28 specific. I was going to try and go today but didnt make it

So why didn't these cars do what the auction house thought they would do ?
|
They were all three way under the money. I wouldn't sell my black z for less than $120k, and it can't hold a candle to one of Mark's unrestored survivors.
Maybe the word is out that Mecum does not vet the cars and BJ does vet them. That COULD lead to a conclusion that only the BJ cars can be trusted. Still, one would think Mark's cars would speak for themselves. Gotta say i was quite surprised to see some of the prices. |
There were good offers for those cars before they decided to go the auction route. One car had an offer north of 200k, but the family decided to roll the dice. In fact, there was at least one fantastic offer for everything. Mecum is the premier musclecar auction, and had great results in Kissimmee. Most cars are inspected at the event by hired experts.
|
Also as a seller at Mecum if you lie about #'s etc the buyer has rights and can notify Mecum. As a seller you are liable and Mecum turns it over to legal.
|
If there were better offers on the cars why not let the reserve not met and move them to those people after the auction? For me personally I would have been all over the lemans car at that price but after seeing the estimates mecum listed I made the assumption they were gonna get that kind of money so I moved on to something else.
|
I witnessed Marks and his wife having an offer over a million for all of the cars and parts. I hope in the long run he was able to surpass that offer….
