I wouldn't of guessed from the outside it would keep you cool on the inside.

Very cool also sounds like it may be a 4K Byrne Bros car as 2010 eBay info below from this DoverDragstrip link?
http://www.doverdragstrip.com/phpBB3...f=6&t=2186
Although car a '67, the loose nose may be a '68 as thread comments also below pic.
There's another pic that looks like a strip shot but won't open for me...anyone else?

Old thread but here's a couple more pics of Sandy Cacciola's 'Outlaw' Willys I meant to post a few years back but forgot and just found again on my old confuser. Lots of his Camaro online now but little of the Willys so these may as well land here w/ the others for anyone ever Googling his name to find.

Yes the 67 SS L78 is an original documented car sold new at Byrne Bros. NY. The car now has an LS7 crate engine w/568 HP, it has the original tunnel ram & twin 850 Holley carbs that it had on it in the late 60's. The car was never cut up or tubbed, just fender flares. It has mostly original interior, odometer now shows a little over 11k miles. It currently has the original GM from end on it except for the hood, it is hard to believe, the original paint SS hood is still with the car, it also has the complete fiberglass front end and the ET wheels that were on it in the late 60's.

Made same week as my 4K, 06A.
My car is NOR130809 and this one is NOR130805. Does that mean mine was built four cars after this one?

What an amazing car.

That thing is epic, and to see how great it's been maintained is awesome to see.

Sorry if I missed it, is this your car? If so, do you take it out and run it every so often?

That was a smart car to buy Jeff:headbang:

67 Outlaw Camaro...

Very cool car...great connection from Byrne Brothers.

I love the Dover time slips...we raced there from 73-76...then it was gone. Not sure I remember this car...likely before my time.

Keep posting these items :worship:

Anyone know when those timeslips are from? And what combo, 424 or 454?

1967Z28 04-06-2024 03:30 PM

Kind of odd that A/C ducts got put on this old drag car. Any story behind that? Was it being used as a street cruiser later in life?

Dover closed in I believe 1976, so they would be in the early 70's. The early photo with the original SS hood on the car, I would assume it still had the original 396-375 engine, it was replaced with a 427 w/the tunnel ram & twin 850 Holley's. The LS7 that is in the car now was bought around 2015 from Jerry Ruhl owner of Ruhl's Performance in Mt. Joy, PA and the original tunnel ram & carbs that were on the car in the early 70's are on the LS7.

John, Sandy Cacciola eventually made the move from NY to Florida & added AC to the car. When he sold the car, it came back to NY when the new owner installed the LS7 & removed the AC.

Thanks, I'm looking at doing a 427 NOW with that same tunnel ram setup for a 70 Nova.
