Last visit I brought Bill a nice spare tire for his W30:-) We all know I love tire pictures:-) Ryan PS: the car is pretty cool to:-) |

Re: Olredalert Bill Stephenson's 1967 442 W30
----Thanks for the help, Ryan! Much appreciated.
This W30 is probably my last restoration, at least on a car. Too much boat resto to do and old age not just creeping but galloping in. They made 502 67 W30s in 67 and they are very hard to track down. A number of them are still being raced and you occasionally see one at the Olds Nats or other Olds shows. This one went new to one of the iconic Olds performance dealers, Brainbeau Oldsmobile in Braintree Ma (google it). They backed the really well known racing team of Woodland and Andreesen from 65 to 67. During 67 the dealership went out of business and I'm fairly sure this car was sold right around that time. The racing team always ran 4-speeds but I suspect this car may have been ordered to attack the automatic class as well. When they closed, the team moved over to Berejic Oldsmobile in Natick Ma. and over a period of time gained a big reputation, culminating in a Smothers Brothers partnership. My car, however, went into obscurity. I do have a picture of it at Conneticut Dragway in 1968 with Cragers on it just parked. I actually found the car thru Jimmy Reid of Reids Automotive, my old engine builder when I raced Red Alert. He had helped out "Woody" Woodland out as Woodland (part of the racing team) had acquired it. The car is now at a friends shop having some finishing touches done, then back to me for the final assembly.......Bill S |

Re: Olredalert Bill Stephenson's 1967 442 W30
Bill, Beautiful car! Was it actually one of the W&A race cars? I'd love to see the picture from Connecticut Dragway.

Re: Olredalert Bill Stephenson's 1967 442 W30
----Hi Sal! I found the pic when googling 67 442 W30 pictures. Cant remember where the copy is. will have to poke around for it. No, the team didn't race this car. I believe they planned to but Brainbeau went down before they could....Bill S

Re: Olredalert Bill Stephenson's 1967 442 W30
Bill ( Lloyd woodland)
It's great to see( bob andresen) 67 w car finally Restored !!fantastic job I'm happy you own it.. I had found the 66 brainbeau car for Lloyd (Gene horn had it for years.) ( I told Lloyd to just put the car together (The 66) and drive it but alas he dident And fell upon hard times)(divorce) And the car was sold in pieces ... I hope I live long enough to Restore my 71 w car.... Take care DJ....I remember working on your Green 70 w30 years ago down in Hyannis Ma. |
Re: Olredalert Bill Stephenson's 1967 442 W30
----Absolutely, Paul!!! I thought I found one down in Alabama from a guy who claims to have over 50 442 parts cars and a bunch of parts, but he hasn't found it yet.
----And,,, Dave, I think we need to talk sometime. A lot of grass has grown since that 70 W30 had a title in my name. Do you remember what color it was originally. Fugly with the green interior! I had no idea that you knew the W and A team, and helped with the 66 car, but I think I remember that you know my buddy, Sam. Is Gene Horn the fella with all the Olds pictures? I think I talked with him about that 1968 picture of this car at Conn. Dragway. He couldn't elaborate on it though, My Ph# 810-420-0490....Bill S |
----Kind of sad to say, but this car will be at Indianapolis Mecum in May......Bill S
|
Bill, great car. I love the 442's.
|
I got to see this show car in person.
999 out of 1000, I would take off one point for the used tire of mine in his trunk as a spare:-) Ryan |
----But its a great tire, Ryan!!!.......Bill S
|
----Anybody with an interest can see pictures of the car totally done on the Mecum Indy sight. Its going Friday along with my 67 El Camino (one after the other). Wasnt planning on selling it either, but I cant get the seat back far enough to be comfortable. I spent the time and shekels to get it just the way I wanted it to be too. Oh well.......Bill S

Love that B-Pillar! Best of luck w/ both cars Bill! :beers: ~ Pete . |
Sharp car! GLWS
|
Car looks great, sorry you decided to sell...but you'll have more time for that red chevelle now!
|
Hi Bill, absolutely love the car!!! Congrats on owning it. A couple of questions: Do you know if it was ordered to be a team car? Possibly to run an automatic class; I'm not talking heresay, but solid info that can't be disputed. Do you know if it is the last 442 sold from Brainbeu? If it is, that might help in the presesetation at the auction. And, do you have any pictures of the car with the team or vice versa? Great car and good luck at the auction.!
|
----I have pretty consistently maintained that I don't have paperwork, only educated conjecture. George Berejik supposedly knew of this car but I never got the chance to talk to him before he passed (RIP, George). The only old picture I have ever found was on Gene Horn's website, and I cant be positive that my car is the same car. Gene cant remember anymore.
---- Maroon/black was the color combo of all the early Woodland and Andreeson cars (65 to 67). The holes in my trunklid match exactly the Brainbeau dealer chrome metal emblem. The lack of comfort options certainly point toward a racing future. My car has all the specific tags of a 67 W30. The only thing I added during the resto was the Transistor Ignition as I found a complete NOS set-up, and it just seemed right. What is indisputable is that both Andreesen and Woodland owned the car at different times. ----I have no idea weather my car was the last 442 sold by Brainbeau, and we will never know, Thanks for the questions!.......Bill S ----PS,,,I recently found out that the team switched to a Turbo 400 for a period of time to go after that record. Apparently, there wasn't a pressing need for a second car! |

I expect you're correct Ryan but otherwise are very similar cars, maybe ordered/delivered at the same time? :beers: ~ Pete . |
