The number of homicides and shootings in Chicago spiked dramatically in 2020, ending with more bloodshed than in all but one year in more than two decades, statistics released by police on Friday revealed. After three years of falling homicide totals, 2020 ended with 769 homicides — 274 more than the previous year and the most since the 784 homicides in 2016. The latest shooting victim figures told the same story, with the year ending with 4,033 shooting victims compared with 2,598 the year before. And it never let up, as is illustrated by the fact that in December, there were 50 homicides — 19 more than occurred in December 2019....:frown: |

50 people get shot in Chi-Raq every weekend. Only about a 1/4 of them die because today's hospitals are able to save a lot of them.

Mayor Lori Lightfoot

We’re still under commie rule here in Michigan

Back to the Buffet!
Our local Hong Kong Buffet is finally open for people to serve themselves. All you have to do is wear a mask and put on disposible gloves when you go up to get your food. Had lunch there yeaterday. May have dinner there tonight. Or better yet tomorrow tonight when it's less crowded. AFAIK, they are the last buffet resturant here in ABQ. Both Linns and Golden Coral went out of business during the pandemic. Now . . . . all that has to happen to make things "back to normal" is for my complex to open the hot tub. Pool is open but not the tub. |

We've skipped anything that requires it so the few left that want to hold onto that inconvenience I just don't spend money there. But it's so few and far between now it's no big deal.
We still have a Golden Corral here, they aren't requiring any of that stuff. Weird but that's just how this whole year has been, no consistency anywhere. |
That is only when you are getting your food. New Mexico has yet to open 100% all of it's businesses. Bars are still closed
So suck on that. |
Come on, do we really need this kind of talk on the site? We are better than this. Enough.

They're not comparing it to the smaller cities which have less people, like the ones you noted above. ..and lets keep Politics out of this conversation please. |
FYI, we were in Silver City NM two weeks ago. The bars and restaurants are wide open no masks required. Even employees are casual with them. We hit most places in Old Downtown very casual and probably 50/50 folks wearing masks on the streets. Pretty cool area. Larry

Political, offensive and disrespectful posts will not be tolerated. This is a Musclecar site and is meant to be a sanctuary from the politics and controversies of the day. I live in the city of Chicago, Northside, I think last summer felt even more sketchy than ever. Idle hands...

They must have excellent EMS as well. By the time the vics get to the hospital the die has been cast the majority of the time. The above was my experience as an EMT riding the fire engine and the rescue truck in the slums of Atlanta. Had a guy shot 23 times with a 9mm one call. His worst injury was a fractured femur. He lived to tell the tale. |

According to the most recent census Chicago is only 2.7 million people. (Edit the 2019 census is incorrect depending on where you look, I see it differs from 2.7 to as much as 8) Phoenix is 4.5 million people and we've been open for months, 5th largest city in the US according to google. Maybe it's the news in your area keeping you guys isolated from the rest of the country happenings?? What constitutes a major city these days anyway? |
I think I found the answer. Google to the rescue
Major city defined by population: major city means a zone with a population concentration in excess of 250 000 inhabitants or, where the population concentration is 250 000 inhabitants or less, a population density per km2 which justifies the need for ambient air quality to be assessed and guaranteed; I think that opens it up to a lot of cities across the US that I'm sure have been open for quite some time now. |
This thread has run it course, and therefore I'm closing it.
