Re: Cars with Cragars
Would it be a good idea to run 7 inch wide wheels on L60s?
|
Re: Cars with Cragars
Not a good idea as the 10" of tire footprint becomes bulged in the center for much faster wear .
The only reason to do it would be inner/outer tire clearance or back space issues with said wheels . A 7" wheel also bulges the sidewall which can create a carcass safety/structure issue in turns and high speed. |

It won't matter for a while, the radials on the Camaro still have a lot of life in them. |

Would like to see pics of the hole car with cragars, thanks

Re: Cars with Cragars
Me too. What traction bars are they? New or old?
|
Re: Cars with Cragars
Lakewood Traction Action "Grumpy Bars"
The Original Competition bars, designed by Bill Jenkins/ Lakewood circa 1968-69. They are the Square Long bars,J-Bolts with front & rear 3" U bolt clamps. Tom |
Re: Cars with Cragars
Got a 2nd pair by any chance. I'm doing a real '69 Camaro Super Stocker that raced as a brand new car. Old pics show the square type and all I've been able to find are the long rectangle style. Pictures of my car circa 1869 are elsewhere on this site.

The original square tube bars are about 3x the cost of the original style slim bars. FYI. Very rare. |
Re: Cars with Cragars
Their are members here with multiple sets of Square bars......a few months ago there was a set advertised on this site , Complete with hardware for around $1,000..... ready to bolt on.
I don't think they lasted for too long. |
Re: Cars with Cragars
I purchased the 15X8 Cragars this last winter. They have a 4.25 back spacing.
Unfortunately they're unilug but they'll have to do until I can find an original pair with straight through lugs like the 1971 15X4 wheels up front. Kurt https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...ar_cragars.jpg |

Re: Cars with Cragars
I think that 'Vette is/was a local car here on the east coast. And Kurt, your car does look bad ass! I have the same combo. on my '69 Camaro and I like 'em. Don't feel bad about the uni-lug; way better than the current "square spoke". Finding direct bolts are gonna be tough and expensive. I think Don might have some.

Re: Cars with Cragars
Thanks for the compliments guys.
Since I've been a kid, I have always thought that Cragars were "THE" wheel to have. All the cool cars had them back in the day. They are the best looking aftermarket wheels......IMO. I never cared for Keystones and didn't like aluminum slots either. Although I have changed my opinion on slots as I got older. Kurt |

Re: Cars with Cragars
I don't care for keystones either and up until recent years wasn't all that fond of cragars. The older I get the more I really like cragars. It wasn't until I stumbled across this car I decided my 69 ss would also wear a pair of these killer rims. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...5468-image.jpg

Re: Cars with Cragars
Were the names 'Moyer' or 'Viglione' attached to this car?
|
Re: Cars with Cragars
Marlin,
I'm not surprised you were the first to "put this one together" Buzzie Viglione..... Him and his Dad, Joe are still local and alive. I'm making efforts in locating the engine, trans and other related materials...... can you, would you confirm the Vin for this. Tom |
Re: Cars with Cragars
The VIN for this car is: 124379N616477. Car was sold new at Yenko (original owner is/was Moyer) and was HO, a/t, p/s, v/t and would have been an X44 body since it was an 03B build.

Re: Cars with Cragars
Thank you....
How long have you known of this car and ,if known, it's demise ? |
Re: Cars with Cragars
Years, why??
|
Re: Cars with Cragars
Curiosity is all. conversation.....
I've known rumors of it for decades..... The guy in the pic, sitting on the slicks is a very good friend of mine He finally dug up the pic....only one he has and knew the story of it well. theres speculation that the drivetrain may still be alive.....that's my interest. I live in the area , that's my motivation. |
Re: Cars with Cragars
Cool stuff, the world is pretty small sometimes - especially the world of Supercars!!
|
Re: Cars with Cragars
I'm kinda surprised nobody tried to say that somehow the car miraculously survived. (Can you say Rebody). If the VIN is public knowledge and a car doesn't exist already, someone with less scruples than the members here has a prime opportunity to say he/she found the hulk in a yard and found the drivetrain and reunited everything. Been done before and certainly/surely will be done again. I wonder if the plates and tags to that body are known to exist? I hate to sound cynical, but a lack of honor and greed are usually tied together.

Re: Cars with Cragars
And I almost forgot, Vernon Rowley also raced a Hemi GTX convertible with sponsorship from Doug Griffith Chrysler Plymouth in Baltimore, MD. Don't know what happened to that car.

Re: Cars with Cragars
Yes, it could happen - but the Trim Tag info..... always gets them in the end!
