That brown 2nd gen Camaro was called Brief Encounter. It belonged to the late Dallas Jones, the long time owner of Beech Bend Raceway in Bowling Green KY. The Hughes Kirk Tigers plate on the rear is from one of our local high schools in Beechmont KY, which is no longer open. Dallas ran this car in Pro Stock in the early '70s. I believe at one time it had a ZL1 in it. Another local racer Pat Freels has built a replica of this car and runs it at Beech Bend.

That will give Pete something to do...digging up history and pics on Brief Encounter.

Popularity of the tri-5’s in the mid 60’s competing with small block & with the introduction of the 396 in 1965, would find its way into these cars. This 55 is a small example of the many competing in organized drag racing!

Great update Freddie, here’s another pic w/ his G2 Camaro on the Hauler. Sounds like an amazing guy, do you recall him having a ‘69 Camaro too? There's a few earlier Dallas Jone’s Videos on YouTube w/ his Brief Encounter Mopars, here’s one… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-HJ_3NULiM :beers: ~ Pete . |

There was a rumor around here for many years that Dallas had the ZL1 soaking in a drum of oil at his garage in Drakesboro. I never tried to find out if it was true. One of his cars is on display at the KY Motorsports Museum in Central City. |
