One of the highlights of the show was the presence of Jim Hayter. On October 8, 1971 at the AHRA World Points Finals in Fremont, CA, Jim set a new record running a 9.63 @ 143 MPH to win the Pro Stock World Championship. He was driving the Fred Gibb sponsered 1969 ZL-1 Camaro, #1, now owned by Bill Porterfield. Accordning to Bill, the car may be retired from racing, as he just recently put the original engine block back in the car. Glad I got to see Bill hammer it a couple of times. BTW, Jim is still racing today. Here is the car on the 2006 Gibb show plaques. https://www.yenko.net/attachments/216883-gibb-1.JPG At the Gibb show. https://www.yenko.net/attachments/216883-BP-1.jpg [/ QUOTE ] Cool picture from back in the day. https://www.yenko.net/attachments/134...-71%5B1%5D.jpg |
