Re: Welcome to PonchoVilla (the house of Pontiacs)
-----Now Don,,,Gots to give more info than that. What a great example of Pontiac performance, and my colors too. Which 421 Tri-Power was it delivered with and is it still there? I had a 67 2+2 but always wanted a 65 as tri-power was still available. Just MYHO but nothing says Pontiac performance like those three carburetors and three peddles under the dash!!!.......Bill S

Bill,If i ever thought I would get anyones attension fast I knew it would be yours!! I know you also have a love for these ocean liners. It was sold new in Pa 40 miles from me even thou I drove to Connecticut for it.Original Nightwatch Blue with parchment gut and roof. Ive got the original buildsheet from under the seat and it was delivered with a 4 barrell but the trips and the HO manifolds are there and look to have been there for a long time. The owner that I got it from Died and thought it came with trips but they were there when he bought the car years ago.The 4spd is original along with the 342 gears. Cool options,ps,wood wheel,am-fm,reverb,8 lugs, rally gauges with tachometer, soft ray glass and the hazard flasher. It came with a few more options also.Got a killer body on it and it runs awesome. I just took my girl out in it tonight and punched it on a roll and it broke the tires loose like no tomorrow and I flat shifted second and I tought she was going to faint. Runs pretty hard for a big tank.I will post a few more pics in a couple days. |

What an awesome car Don. Fully deserving of the GR-RRR plate up front.
Pontiac just had so many cool performance cars across their lineup! Chevrolet was the only other GM division with as many to choose from. It's no wonder that in 1965, Motor Trend couldn't decide whether to give their 1965 Car Of The Year Award to the GTO, 2+2, Grand Prix, or Bonneville, so they gave it to the entire Pontiac Motor Division. Here's an 8-lug wheel on display, and a big ol' wagon, with a 421 under the hood. |
Re: Welcome to PonchoVilla (the house of Pontiacs)
Years ago(mid 80's) I remember seeing a '66 Bonne wagon with a 421 3-2's and a 4 speed 8 lugs etc...... sitting in the back of a used carlot in Hayward.

Re: Welcome to PonchoVilla (the house of Pontiacs)
Crazy question: how did they balance those 8-lug wheels, without a center area to mount onto the balancer machine?
|
Re: Welcome to PonchoVilla (the house of Pontiacs)
Crap..As I recall the cars came with a extra piece to adapt to a balancer...Somebody must have a pic.

Re: Welcome to PonchoVilla (the house of Pontiacs)
-----Steve,,,Most tire stores and garages back in 8-lug days had an adapter laying around somewhere. The hold-down for the spare was supposed to be useable for that purpose but I have never figured out how!
-----Don,,,Anyone who has on ounce of performance in their soul would change out the log manifolds for the HO manifolds on Pontiacs from this era. Pontiacs log manifolds would have to be the most restrictive manifolds ever cast. Those HO manifolds and just a bit of headwork and a mild cam will make a standard 421 stand up and roar......Bill S |
