Re: Musclecar Photographs mrays
Sure seems like an inordinate amount of "matching numbers" to me. Absolutely no reflection to the photographer who took the time to shoot and post the pics....a BIG THANK YOU for that, but I'm having trouble believing that all those high horse cars somehow escaped the street wars and drag strips "unharmed"? I know I'm a little skeptical.

Re: Musclecar Photographs mrays
Best keep in mind that matching numbers means just that, the #'s match. Sorry to say but in today's world, it has nothing to do with original engines...other than maybe trying to make someone think it does. Personally I always consider matching #'s or "restoration engine" type phrases = restamp unless 'born with' or something specifically stating in plain English that it is THE original engine. Same with trans, rear, distributor etc...#'s matching only means the same part/casting/stamping #'s but nothing more. That all said, even claims of originality mean little anyway until verified by a trusted source. The short form version of all this...guilty until proven innocent! Re: Musclecar Photographs mrays
Pete -- totally agree ... "born with" is the key and there are not many ways you can sham those words. TAZ

Re: Musclecar Photographs mrays
Good point Pete, I never looked at it that way. It is sad that the "hobby" has come to that, I know there are still some honorable people playing. Funny (not really) how money changes things. "Oh what a web we weave........."

Re: Musclecar Photographs mrays
The majority of cars at this auction do not have an owner or representative present to talk to about the car so I just get my information from the auction description of the car which is written up by the consigner. Numbers matching no longer means born with original drivetrain like it used to. It simply means the drive train is correct for the car. Most of the write-ups mention factory documentation as well, but you rarely see even copies of that documentation displayed with the car. I try to only post photos of legit cars and not clones, but I am by no means an expert in determining whether or not a car is legit. I'm glad you're enjoying the photos, and if anyone knows that one of the cars I post a photo of is a clone speak up. You won't hurt my feelings.

Re: Musclecar Photographs mrays
I went to a car show at the Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners MI on Saturday. Here are a few photos of some of the cars that were present.
Here is a 1912 Buick. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...8-dscn0954.jpg Nice 69 Z/28 RS was said to be an original drivetrain car. According to the trim tag it is an X33 car that came with a 727 ivory and black interior and was painted 72 Hugger Orange with a B black vinyl top. I think that combination would have looked good. When the car was restored the vinyl top was left off and the hounds tooth interior was added. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...9-dscn0957.jpg This 65 442 was powered by a built 350 Oldsmobile engine that was backed by an automatic transmission. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...1-dscn0959.jpg This is a 1912 Standard Dayton Special. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...2-dscn1009.jpg Here is a 1936 Chevrolet Master Deluxe Two Door Town Sedan that was powered by a 206 ci six putting out 79 horsepower. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...3-dscn1011.jpg This is a 1932 Chevrolet Confederate. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...4-dscn1013.jpg This 62 Impala is actually two-tone red, but it's kind of hard to see from this photo. It's powered by a healthy small block. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...5-dscn1039.jpg This 64 Biscayne is an original 425 horse 409 car according to the original window sticker the owner had on display with it. There was also a black and white feature of it in Super Chevy a number of years ago. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...6-dscn1054.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...7-dscn1046.jpg This 1948 Tucker Sedan is a recently completed restoration. Apparently there were 37 Tuckers built and sold from the factory in Chicago in 1948 before it closed. Left behind at the factory were the makings of more than a dozen additional vehicles. There were 13 additional cars completed after Tucker shut it's doors. There was also an additional car built from parts in the 1980's. This particular car pictured was built from the cowl, dash, seats and chassis of car #1052, the front sheet metal from car #1018 and NOS bumpers, front doors, quarter panels, decklid, engine and transmission all of which were purchased at the 1950 bankruptcy auction. The restorer fabricated the rear doors, roof and floor which were the only major parts that were missing. I'm not sure how one would classify this car, but it was beautiful. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...8-dscn1057.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...9-dscn1059.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...0-dscn1060.jpg There was also a muscle car display in the front lobby of the museum. Here is R. Mahoney's 65 Belvedere A990 which was displayed at MCACN this past year. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...1-dscn1064.jpg This is W. Parfet's 70 Hemi Challenger R/T with a 4 speed. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...2-dscn1066.jpg D. Jansen's 70 GTO Judge RA IV with an automatic. This car was featured in Muscle Car Review back in the 80's. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...4-dscn1068.jpg This is J. Stubbing's (Heartbeat City) 69 Z/28 RS that is equipped with a cross ram, factory headers and 4 wheel disc brakes. I'm not sure if it is a factory JL8 car or not. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...5-dscn1070.jpg I took a number of other photos in the museum of rare pre WWII classics. I'd be glad to share some of those as well if any of you guys are interested in those types of cars. |

Re: Musclecar Photographs mrays
----That white/orange gut Z was the car I did. The original block may have been with it but it was totally unusable. I never had more problems with a restoration than that one. Guys that saw it at MCACN the one year will remember the paint being dull. I had to repaint it a second time, and didn't trust the original painter so had to pay twice. Lost a friend/customer over it too, which is probably more important than the money at the end of the day.....Bill S

Re: Musclecar Photographs mrays
This batch of photographs were taken locally this summer.
Elkhart IN closed of the downtown area and had a car show one Saturday in July. These 5 cars are owned by a local business owner who helped sponsor the show. This is a 1928 Elcar Model 8-91 Roadster with a 298ci 8 cylinder producing 84 horsepower. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...7-dscn0946.jpg This is a 1931 Cadillac 4 door Dual Cowl with a V8. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...8-dscn0945.jpg This is a 1932 Packard Light Eight Roadster with a 319ci straight 8 producing 130 horsepower. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...9-dscn0947.jpg This is a 1932 Auburn Speedster. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...0-dscn0950.jpg This is a 1933 Auburn 8-105 Salon Brougham with a 268ci 8 cylinder producing 105 horsepower. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...1-dscn0949.jpg The next group of photos were taken at the cruise in at the Essenhaus in Middlebury IN that occurs every Thursday from May through September. The grand finale at the end of September usually draws close to one thousand cars. This 66 Nova SS has a 327 with a 4 speed. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...3-dscn1085.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...4-dscn1074.jpg This 68 Camaro has a small block with an automatic. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...5-dscn1092.jpg This 69 Z/28 has a healthy 540 backed by a 4 speed. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...6-dscn1088.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...7-dscn1087.jpg This 71 RS/SS 396 has a 402 backed by a TH400. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...8-dscn1093.jpg This 67 Chevelle SS has a 396 with a 4 speed. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...9-dscn1114.jpg This 67 GTX is a 440 car with a TorqueFlite. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...0-dscn1127.jpg This 69 Yenko SC Camaro has been in the area since at least the early 80's and has had the same owner since 1984. He just recently had it repainted and has been a regular at the cruise in this year. There are a lot of small things that aren't correct, but it is a Yenko and he drives it. The interior is mostly original. There are holes in the dash bezel where the tach was mounted and the gauges above the ash tray were there when he bought it. It has a date correct CE block and M21. The owner believes the rearend is the original one and says it came with 4.56 gears. The body number is 202499. Both Vince E. and Ed C. saw this car back in the 80's after he bought it. It's definitely not perfect, but it's a nice driver. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...1-dscn1119.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...2-dscn0570.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...3-dscn0568.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...4-dscn0572.jpg The next two cars are from the cruise in at Cross Roads Community Church in Goshen. This is a large cruise in held yearly on the third Sunday in August. This 66 Caprice was built by J. Randolf who lived across the street from me when I was growing up. It has a small block with TPI and a 4 speed automatic. I like the 67 Chevelle SS hood louvers grafted into the hood. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...5-dscn1106.jpg This 65 Coronet has a 511ci Hemi backed by a TorqueFlite. It's said to be a 9 second car although I have never seen it at the track. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...6-dscn1111.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...7-dscn1112.jpg |

Great pics, thanks as always.
Those 30's-era (is that the brass era?) cars just stand the test of time and their beauty is just undeniable. Love seeing those. |
Re: Musclecar Photographs mrays
Here are some photos I took up at US131 in Martin MI last Saturday. I was the last points race of the year and there were probably 200+ cars there.
This 52 Henry J was all steel except the scoop and had a 462ci big block that was pushing it to high 9's. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...6-dscn1131.jpg This 87 Corvette has a 505 and was running 8.70's. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...7-dscn1135.jpg This 86 Cutlass had a 415ci small block and was running 9.30's. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...8-dscn1138.jpg This Jerry Haas built S10 pickup had a 632 and was running 7.70's on the motor. The owner hopes to get into the 7.30's or so with some more tuning and then into the 6's on the bottle. This is one of the best sounding drag vehicles I've ever heard. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...9-dscn1142.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...1-dscn1153.jpg This 73 Duster was running 10.00's. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...2-dscn1149.jpg This 67 Camaro had a monster big block and was running 8.10's. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...3-dscn1158.jpg This mid 80's pickup had a blown big block and was running mid 8's. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...4-dscn1166.jpg |
