Congrats, I was so close to making Paul an offer on that car when he owned it. One of the coolest cars out there.
|
Awesome Tim!!!!! Love this Camaro!!
|
While I’m excited about my new Z, I will truly miss this car. Enjoy Tim!
|
So is this the third time you have owned this bad ass Camaro Tim??

I've got other things I should be working on, but frankly cannot help myself but fool with the HM 68.
Not that the car required any cleaning, but I gave it a gentle wash down and then soaked it in Boshield. I then wiped everything down today. Here are a few pics...... https://i.imgur.com/3vmwTKTh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/NUr3jPNh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/tHPY2yBh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/Rtgpmjeh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/cfK7qRvh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/3ZgkPf5h.jpg I never was happy with the fit of the rear wheels and tires on the car. I had a pair of 15x7' 3.5 BS American's from the last time I owned the car. That added to some old F70-15's I had laying around, so I decided to mock it up and see if I was happy with the fit. I think I have something here...... https://i.imgur.com/q5UI9gph.jpg https://i.imgur.com/BQuTkXOh.jpg As I had posted in the technical section, I've been working on the road rash and areas where there was little or no paint. This is strictly from buffing compound. Still room for improvement..... Before https://i.imgur.com/ywMwzuch.jpg After https://i.imgur.com/gSCOtV4h.jpg |
WOW, the floor pan looks clean enough to eat off of..:eek2:
That is a great pic of the oval tail pipes. I needed that as a reference for the Pypes set I have. There is no way I can ever get them to stop rattling on the body or spring. I'm gonna make a wooden buck and shape them in my press. I knew the last several inches of those pipes were pressed from the factory, but that is a perfect example. I would be welding the pin holes in the exhaust pipes, unless you have a set coming from Eric.. |
I have had these Cragar's laying around I bought from a couple of forum members thinking this day may come. And yes, I know the front tires are waaay too large.
So..........TT's or Cragar's? https://i.imgur.com/Fqg7hzah.jpg https://i.imgur.com/v3QFJTJh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/q5UI9gph.jpg |
Personally Tim, I think TT's are a better choice with that color of that killer Camaro. - Bill W

TT gets my vote, too.

Unanimous, the TT's look much better with the color.
You will blow thru on the pinhole. I start at least an 1/8th inch outside with reduced heat and quite a bit more wire speed. Short, tack welds until you find good enough metal to weld to. Once you have a solid perimeter, you weld to that and close up the hole. Careful grinding to flush and a spray of salt water on the bare metal will blend it some. If you have a Dent Fix Eliminator, with the medium wire wheel, will make a close replication of metal texture to hide the grinder marks. I always finish grind with 120 too. |

I'm a huge TT fan (I just put a set on my car) and absolutely hated Cragars when I was younger - but as I get older I find that a set of big/little Cragars on a first gen Camaro is a killer look. Years back when I first saw Grady's red 67 with the L88 at one of the SCR's in Joliet helped change my mind on Cragars...........
Can't go wrong with whatever you decide. |

---- My favorite of the ones I had was a dark grey metallic with light grey leather and vinyl top one. I was seriously thinking of slapping a 454 in it at the time. I even had Nova big block frame mounts and a few other things for it, but came to my senses. It was too good a driver just as it was!.....Bill S

I just love this car.
If I didn't know better I would swear you keep repurchasing it just to drive me crazy... |
Great story. So the car came with the original black but with an L88 in there?
I like the Cragars more. |

The car was apart when the 2nd owner was killed. The car was getting raced. The blueprinted OM (L78) was there as was the 427 short block. The original L78 heads, intake, and carb were installed on the 427 (albeit heavily ported) thinking that was the next progression for the car. I'm still partial to the Cragar's as well:wink: |
Cragar's:beers:
|
Torque Thrusts are the way to go, especially on a blue 68'
I may be biased on TT's over Cragar's, but I calls em' as I see them. And they are in fact lighter!!! :naughty: |
Carrying on the Day 2 theme of the car, a proper vintage A212CW is now in place.
https://i.imgur.com/w0rVIO1h.jpg I made a deal on the remaining A212CW's from Bill Pankiw (Big Block Bill). Straight up guy to do business with:biggthumpup: Thanks Bill! |
That looks beautiful.

One great thing about having your own tire equipment, you can play around with different looks.
I also have come to the realization I have waaaay to many wheels and tires laying around! https://i.imgur.com/i5OXqNKh.jpg |
FINALLY.......the weather has broke and the roads are clean. So when I was moving cars around in the shop today, a little test drive was in order.
Also, in the mean time, I was able to source a nice relatively virgin set of 842's for the L88 https://i.imgur.com/tcjTCbth.jpg https://i.imgur.com/bDPmoEjh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/2IOTXT1h.jpg https://i.imgur.com/Eq1sSzth.jpg |
I think we need a video, Tim.

Love it!:biggthumpup::3gears:

Love it Tim. I like where your red-line is set on the tach!!
|
I was going through the binder for the car today, and ran across a CD. This was from back in 2016 when Tracey had the 2 original photos of the car digitally enhanced to clear them up. Thought I'd share........
