Re: Verne Frantz's Too Cool 62 409!!

Another reason for us to keep in touch with our friends and do the required "maintenence" to keep friendships strong. All of my old-days buddies are down in California but I try to see them as much as possible when I am in town. I just had lunch with a high school car buddy on Wednesday when I was in Oakland. We went over to Kragen after lunch and they had Wieand blowers, Holleys, Edelbrock intakes, Cherry Bombs, headers, etc. in the store! It was just like 30 years ago except that that none of that stuff had been touched in years. Mr Gasket header gaskets, B&M shifters, Hurst shifters. It's the Pinole/Hilltop Kragen off of Appian Way/I-80 if anybody wants to go take a time-warp look. Anyway, it's great to spend time with old friends and it must be hard as hell to lose them. Call your buddies and say hello.

I'd like to say Thanks again to everyone for all the positive comments about my long story. I'm glad that it somehow conveyed my attachment with the car as well as just a history.

I also Thank you for your kind comments regarding my friend Jim. We actually had the kind of friendship that did not require frequent contact. Sometimes we'd go for months without a phone call. But when we did talk, it was like we never noticed the break in time.

Thanks again... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif

Just saw this thread posted on the 348-409 site in a discussion about Verne - what a great story and a great guy!

I have this picture that I got from the original owner of my 69 Chevelle convertible, of the black with white top 62 Impala SS convertible that she traded in on the Chevelle in January of 69. I'm sure Verne woulda enjoyed seeing it.....

Well, that was very entertaining, but bittersweet to read....
I wasn't aware before now, that he was only 2 years older than me. Way too early to leave. I hope his wife and family are doing OK.

Good to read again....

Verne was a "good egg." Easy to chat with. Knowledge of the big car and just a down-right nice guy. All this, plus he was from Joisy. Rest easy Verne...
