----Steve,,,I had the El Camino for around a year and also put it thru the ringer once or twice (sic). The only problem with the car was the stock Muncie shifter. I actually bought a new one at the dealer back then and installed it and while it shifted better it was still mediocre at best! It was a beast though. I bought it from the original owner and thought Id keep it forever but Joe Hrudka (Mr. Gasket) made me an offer I thought at the time that I couldn't refuse. House payments and rent have ruined a bunch of my long range plans in my life,,,LOL!!!!!! Some have mentioned another L89 69 El Camino. I haven't yet ever seen proof that another was built, although I know there is a small chance. But will it be the astronomical survivor that my old black on black one is????.......Bill S

Crazy (sic)

Great story, when did you buy it from the original owner?

Bill it was 90+ degrees that day and I ran that truck at 70 mph down the Ohio Turnpike to the NOCC show. It never missed a beat, never got warm and shifted great. On the return trip I got off I271 at SR 94 and really put my foot down. Wide open thru 3-1/2 gears...my cousin (Forrests son) was with me, hangin on. That shifter had me worried....ah, it was fun! Can't wait to see it again, I know it has a good home!

Re: Looking for a few 1969 L89 Chevelle`s for MCACN's

----I think I bought the El Camino in 1974/75, but could be off by a year. Ft. Liqueurdale had so many stoplights that a 4:10 gear was nothing but fun. Stoplight to stoplight racing, even at that time was rampant, especially after the sun went down. Couldn't get much traction with it so actually never raced it. Left that up to a couple of different Corvettes I was lucky to also have.
----I had a buddy that had a really good running put-together 69 Nova 396/375/turbo 400. He actually ran around town down there with 5:86 gears. He would usually pile 4 of his closest friends in the Nova for traction and go looking for races. The uninitiated would look him and the car and all his buddies over and think they had the race won. BIG mistake. Joey made a bunch of money off that Nova!!!.........Bill S
