Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
I sat down and read the entire 204 pages of Ryan's post a few days ago and was really moved by his dedication to this project, his family and his relationship with his dad. So I sat down and talked with Kenny about giving Ryan a helping hand and we both agreed that this was something we needed to do. I am very happy to verify that we at Mascar Classics will be building a fire breathing W31 motor for Ryan and his family, and we will cover all costs involved in this build, including a dyno run with video. Kenny will work with Ryan and build the motor to the best of his ability. Kenny will be posting pictures and details when he starts the build in the next 30 days or so.
Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas RST |

Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
I am struggling to find words appropriate for this note.
This happened so quickly I am truly still processing. Scott and I have had a few great chats and we certainly share the same passion for metal, plastic and rubber (Cars) and even more so we love "the good stuff" that comes with it, The friendships, the helping hand, the first timer doing stupid stuff, the expert daub shared in Nano detail, the family and friend involvement, the joys in giving, the joys in receiving. I feel very humbled by this gesture. (full stop) I also feel the need to receive it well. By this I mean to make good use of this gift. To putt putt around to cruise nights only would be a disservice. I intend to race my car with this engine at PSMCDR each year. Scott/Kenny/Mascar: I shared your note with my Mom last night at dinner and she immediately burst into joyful tears. My whole family thanks you!! Ryan |

Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
WOW! What an honorable thing to do from the Mascar guys! The dyno time alone is a helluva gesture! Congrats to all, and YES, I'm searching for parts for the build....(and throwing in an idea or two)!

Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
I'm glad we can help out. And anyone that knows me understands that I love to build old school Naturally aspirated engines.
We will have some fun with this one. Mascar Classics Ken Maisano |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Words can't describe that gesture......that was pretty stand up guys. The words not spoken, in this case, mean way more than the ones that can be typed. Good on ya!
cheers Dave |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
I have chatted with Dave Siltman (he is looking through the tickle trunk of SBO tricks to see what can be added to this build:-)
Dave is a very bad influence on me:-) he always calls and has something that I want (but may or may not need) and knows what works and knows what doesn't work! Thanks Dave:-) Stephen Minore is on the job, sourcing core items that I don't have (I really felt I had more duplicate engine parts but my extra block is the W31 warranty piece and the heads are junk but they are the originals. So far a virgin 1968 core engine, plus, plus plus:-) Thanks Steve:-) Ken Maisano. (virtual hand shake my new friend) I have so many feelings of gratitude, and thanks!!! I am also very very very excited for this build, let's chat anytime you are free:-) Thanks Ken:-) Ryan |

Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
What a awesome thing for Mascar to do for Ryan. Doing the restoration your self is a Hugh undertaking, but when its done how proud will you be telling every one you did it your self. The look on Ryan's face will be priceless when he first fire's it up and hears the whine of the M22. The first drive will be so cool. A big Thank You to Mascar, just wow! Your guys are the best! Thanks for the positive comments:-)
I am (or try to be) a very positive person and the blessings in my life are remarkable. 24 Years ago today I was married to "Amy Smith" and we have grown up together (We were kids 19 and 20) and we have supported each other through thick and thin (No thick jokes about my girlish figure this is a serious post:-) My "Beautiful, Oldsmobile loving wife is a rock star in our house:-) Ryan https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...9-img_3733.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...-54670-574.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...1-img_0536.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...2-img_1767.jpg |

My best man shared a very special 24 year wedding anniversary gift last night:-)
He kept his speech and sent it to us:-) (24 years in his sock drawer:-) After he said this speech he said: "Amy if you see Ryan walking around the house making car sounds don't be too hard on him, he is probably just thinking of me" Ryan https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...77-54713-1.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...77-54714-2.jpg |

You are not alone Darrell, I don't dislike any brand, quite the contrary, we are muscle car guys:-) When my money tree blossoms I want special cars from each maker. (And my special collection would include AMC, Studebaker, and a very early VW bug) Ryan |

Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
More Big News:-)
SNG Nick Morroco has completed my M22Z (3) (I plan to visit early in the new year to pick it up. I also plan to pick up some Post Sedan parts and maybe do some visiting in Ohio) Nick raved about the service and the quality of the gear set from Jody Haag We also decided to upgrade the mid plate to a steel plate. (As far as I know this will be a brute, Nick can share the details) I can't wait to trial this bad boy:-) Nick has been an all star help with any and all transmission, clutch, rear end concerns. And we are even discussing a PSMCDR specific "CHEVY" 12 bolt rear end. Kenny Maisano gets to choice the gear ratio to match the power curve of the PSMCDR MASCAR W31. I will find a "W27" aluminum Olds cover that matches Chevy 12 bolt cover bolt pattern to try to make it look like an Olds rear:-) FYI this is PSMCDR legal as Canadian Oshawa Cutlass's got Chevy rears:-) https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...-unnamed_1.jpg Nick's old car going on the block next week https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...56-unnamed.jpg Myself, Nick, My Dad rebuilding my Olds differential. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...-unnamed_2.jpg Beginning of the day. (after watching The Price Is Right) https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...-unnamed_3.jpg At the end of the day:-) Again, a huge thank you to Nick. Any whining will be M22:-) Ryan |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
Nick:
"I can't say enough regarding how nice the M22Z components went together. They are certainly quality pieces. Jody R Haag went above and beyond by taking the time to match the brass to a specific gear to obtain a perfect fit. He also sent us a set of his oversize sliders and hubs which will take a lot of lateral rock out of the sliders. I must say I am very pleased with Jody's Transmissions and the technical advise I received." High praise from a guy with many transmissions under his belt Ryan |
Re: Ryan Weaver's 1969 Olds Cutlass S W31 Club Coupe
The Olds purists will be cringing and calling you names.....as the Buick purists did the same to me....when I put a Chevy 12 bolt in my Buick.
As I have said many times....It's ok....it's your car and your money. GREAT PICTURE OF THE THREE OF YOU Dan |
