The only suspected JL8 car that isn't a Z/28 is an L65/4-speed w/A/C. It has no docs.

I believe it had a trailer hitch when discovered..therefore the JL-8 brakes.

I was at Carlisle many years ago and there was a green L-78 car for sale for 3800 bucks. All original drivetrain. M-22, cowl hood, center fuel guage and no console. Had rust around the back window.

The seller had all the paperwork including bus card of salesman that ordered the car. The car was ordered with JL-8, but arrived without that option. That must have been pretty common.

I only had $3500 on me that day, but seller would not even accept a deposit, so I went back the next day with all the cash, but it was sold.

Was wondering where that car is now.

I spoke to the brother of the original owner of my real JL-8 Z. He told me that they went to the dealer to buy an advertised 69Z with the xram in the trunk, but when they saw the added cost of the xram(500 bucks he said), they decided to by the JL-8 car that was on the lot instead. The first week they went and bought an edelbrock xram because it was way cheaper than the GM setup.

I imagine a vast majority of JL-8 cars were owner ordered and not sitting in dealer showrooms waiting for a buyer.

Back to this car... a REAL BEAUTY !!

Never understood why Chevy mentioned "...the new 'Vette type 4 wheel disc brakes" in Z/28 print ads when they were not ready at the start of '69 production.

What was the hang-up? All the engineering was done early in '68. JL8 is listed in the '68 Assembly Instruction Manual. Many of the parts were production Corvette. The rear axle shafts & housing had slight changes but nothing major.

Maybe last-minute issues came up in testing. I believe that is why the wheels were revised [AD to YH] due to contact with the calipers in cornering. That change wasn't made until late December '68; earliest known car was built late February.

There was a burgundy JL8 69 Camaro SS with a 396/375 in 1972 that came up to central Wisconsin via Chicago. The car had the 15" rally wheels and a red hockey stripe and no spoilers.

This was a real JL8 car and it got totaled out in the summer of 1972.

Sorry for the hi-jack - but was this around the 1987-88 timeframe? I remember a similar car - think it was really rusty but remember the original drivetrain and think it even had a window sticker? I remember all the paperwork laying on the dashboard inside the car for display. Story as I remember it was the guy left the title in the car overnight and someone stole the title - same car maybe?

I've heard of one other JL8 car - 307 that got parted out in Detroit area.

I have owned 4 JL8 cars and 2 JL8 setups in years past, one of the setups came from a busk blue plaine jane 69 Camaro, all of the rest were on z28's or off of a z28
