Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
BlownAway:
I told ya to run away from that car, didn't I?!? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif It was nothing against you, it's just that we've all been down this road a couple times already with this car...and whether it's dealing with the (then) owner, or the Ebay ad, or whatever, each time the story around that car gets bigger & better. As I said earlier, I wanted it to be legit *so bad*, but when you added it all up, it just never got close... |
Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
I'm curious, though, Jeff...at the beginning of this latest saga you were adamant in the *legitimacy* of that Chevelle, and that OUR opinions were wildly incorrect. After reading the last few pages and the case against the car, what is your current opinion?
|
Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
later this week I will have an opinion...you fellas bring up a good case against it..Im not doubting anyone...I need to talk with Mike and find out exactly where this car came from.....let me ask you guys a question...what if Yenko took a malibu and pulled its engine and installed an L88 or some ungodly potent mill...then installed the required traction and go goodies to race in a Stock class...what is this car called....a Yenko race car........ a Yenko built car....what is it??...when Baldwin had Motion build a car it was called a Baldwin/Motion car........Nickey converted cars...whether or not this car is a COPO...what is it...lets do this for the fun of it...yeah this car sure does draw a lot of heat.......
|
Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
If Yenko put that engine in at a later date it would be a neat car, but the fake paperwork kinda kills that senario. The fake looking stripes don't help either. I would think Yenko would have access to one of his stripe kits. We all wish it to be real but everything indicates it is not.
|
Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
Aren't all the COPO Chevelle VINs known?? What is the VIN on this car? That'll clear it up real quick.

If the engine was installed at a later date and done by Yenko, it would be a desirable car but MUCH less than a predelivery installation. |
Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
This is deja vu! I remember talking to the NJ guy about 6 years ago, got the same story, arrived at the same conclusion. He was name droppin, but that doesn't make the car real https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/rolleyes.gif

Ditto

Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
All COPO VINs are not known. I know one REAL COPO Chevelle stored away and the owner hasn't released the numbers to anyone. If the above car was converted from a Malibu, then a lot of side trim had to have been changed. That might be a little harder to hide. A check under the heater box might turn up some interesting numbers too. Another thing that I noticed was the price of the 9562 COPO option. Our 9566AA was $649. Guess I got a bargain.;)

Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
Baldwin didn't have Joel do anything. It was the other way around. Joel took the order for the car (his advertising and then ordered it through Baldwin. Once modified and ready to sell by Joel, it was actually delivered by Baldwin with a 4 mo. Chev warranty on the motor only.)

Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
Time to drag this old thread up again as it deserves it. I had Mike the owner call me a couple weeks ago wanting me to ad the car to the Registry and he offered to send me the NICB proving it was delivered new to Yenko. I said I would look at it. He mailed me a document that referenced the NICB and also the New Jersey DMV Security Commission Investigations division. It looked odd and I showed it to a couple people who also thought it was odd. He said he wanted a letter from me to give to his Insurance co. Now I'm worrying about Insurance Fraud. Because of the possible fraud the NICB was contacted and given the vin.........
They confirmed the car was...:Charge to Dealer Yenko Chevrolet, 575 West Pike Street, Cannonsburg P.A.15317 Ship to: Oak Hill Motor Corp Inc 365 White Plains Road East Chester, N.Y, 10707 The story I got was the orig owner was in Vietnam and ordered it from Yenko. He apparently took delivery at Oak Hill. We have no info on what if anything was done to the Chevelle but it has a black paint code. Common sense would make you think if he ordered it from Yenko he was trying to do something other than stock or he would have just ordered from his local dealer. Maybe Yenko just ordered him a COPO and had it shipped direct ? Interesting stuff. |
Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
Neat!
|
Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
Wowwwwwwww !!! Cool stuff Charlie !! I'll bet he wants 500k for it now.
Ok, so maybe I should have traded him years ago when he was always calling me to trade for my car?? ....... a black Yenko/COPO?? Brings up a bunch of questions now. So I guess Mike never sold the car for 300k back when?? He did not buy it straight from Yenko in 72?? He is claiming the Vietnam vet story now? or maybe he got it as a used car? Did he explain the old paperwork? |
Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
did you get the NICB info from NICB directly?
Don had a magic pen for ordering cars and had some 1966 COPO Corvairs sent to Dana and had some special order 1967 Camaros sent to the Harrell shop. I heard that he also helped get special engines sent to race teams. So may have been possible to send a COPO Chevelle to a shop in 1969. I wonder what kind of shop was at Oak Hill Motor Corp Inc 365 White Plains Road East Chester, N.Y, 10707. It was not far (about 10 miles) from Bryne Bro Chevy on Virginia Rd in White plains, NY who sold COPO 427 cars and Yenko cars. When researching Bryne Bro Chev, I found they had relatives who were in auto sales in the same NY area. When talking to Mike about this Chevelle years ago, I could never get an answer on the rear end code or if he had found a build sheet |
Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
Since the ebay ad is long gone does anyone have photos of this car. Definitely interesting story.

Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
That's a step in the right direction at least. Hopefully he will ask for help...

Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
I heard from Mike again today, the owner of the car. He has someone inquiring about the car. Here is what I got last month from the NCRS on the car. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...7-img_0793.jpg

Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
I never heard of that dealer before...didn't know there was a Chevy dealer in Eastchester, NY back in the day. I do remember a placed called Panda Pontiac in Eastchester...they were one of my customers way back when. Maybe they succeeded the Chevy store....
At one time there was a Westchester County Chevy Dealers Association...those were the days! wilma |
Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
Michael Scinto sent me this in the mail today, wanting me to add this to the Supercar Registry. Can anyone shed any light on this sticker ? A Chevrolet window sticker with the Yenko crest as well ? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...8-img_2048.jpg

Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay

Sounds too good to be true.
Can I have it? Ryan Who has a lead on this one? |
Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
Guys, devil's advocate. How would the crest appear on a pc of documentation from GM unless it was done retrospective? That font looks suspicious too, no?

Oak Hill Motor Company sold and sponsored Billy Lagana's '63 Z11 Impala. Sorry I don't have a better photo right now.

Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
It is. Sharp looking window sticker for sure. Would definitely fool alot of people.
|
Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
My first thought was that the Yenko crest on the sticker could be a rubber stamp type thing that was added once the car got to the dealership.....and then I remembered that the window stickers were affixed at the factory.

Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
There has to be some window sticker experts here.
|
Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
I don't think any tests will prove anything. people can use old paper and wash it, then print. The paper would be the right age and type. But the ink might catch the fakes. technology in ink and paper has greatly changed since 1969.
|
Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
I don't think we need an expert on this one....

Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
This is a ongoing subject between myself and Mr Scinto thru snail mail. He is wanting me to put his car in the registry and sends me stuff like this as documentation. NCRS paperwork shows delivery to Oak Hill so I don't see how a Window Sticker with Yenko listed on it could ever happen. I don't study window stickers but I know others do that know the correct fonts etc. I would like to hear from them.
|
Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
NCRS will be able to validate Chevrolet paperwork in the near future, I'm not sure when that service will be added to the origin reports. The origin report should help since that really tells where the car was originally shipped. If a car was shipped to one dealer and transferred to another, I guess the new dealer could order a window sticker with their dealership name on it from the Zone Office. In that case the entire VIN would be typed since the Zone Office would know the entire VIN.
|
Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
looks fake to me
just like his other window sticker with the McMurray address shown on page 10 of this thread |
Re: 1969 yenko chevelle on ebay
I think it's made. The font looks wrong & out of place, let alone the bold text looks much more recent then the paper it's printed on.
Plus the factory wouldn't put a colorful individual dealer emblem on it. Only time I've seen the Yenko crest on a window sticker,it looked like this,as Don would issue it. http://www.superchevy.com/events/suc...evy-drag-race/ http://image.superchevy.com/f/905340...ow_sticker.jpg Charley, ask triple A if it's one of theirs... http://www.window-sticker.com/ |
