Fun fact.
When I scraped off all the old undercoating material here on the footwell areas there was a very prevalent run in the blackout paint treatment. So I replicated that when I shot the firewall. Although no one will ever know besides y’all. :) That area is also where i revealed the original reddish brown primer color I matched.

Get the rotisserie broken down and stowed away. Shuffling thing around to make room. Next steps are under dash heating system and wiring, working on seats now, and rebuild power steering box. Also dunked the driveshaft and pedal assembly in an Evapo-Rust bath today.

Thanks Chick. FYI I use your build thread routinely on this project. Printed it out and have it in big 3 ring binders for easy reference. I appreciate all the effort you put in to documenting your car.

Little things now. Driveshaft after wire brushing black paint off.

Then clean after soaking 3 days in a pvc tube Evaporust bath. That revealed the probable location where the marking stripes were.

Stripes.

Now coating with "Rust Prevention Magic" to preserve the natural finish.

Man this car is turning out awesome!!!

Bill, is the RPM white or green ?? I see the 2 different colors and can't get a "read" on if they do different things.
Thanks

Thanks

Its green. I didn't know there were two different kinds actually. Only looks green in the jar though. Brushes on transparent. I did have to heat in up a bit with my heat gun to get in on the paint brush. Then it applied evenly to the warm tube. I finally wiped it while still warm to erase brush marks. In the close up pic, I had RPM coated the tube up to about 1" each side of the paint markings. Needed them to dry before I got any closer. So you can see a very faint difference between coated and raw.

A little interior prep work in process. 725 deluxe/custom red.

She had no back seat when I got it so had to source a core and start from scratch. We do have the original buckets in the works as well.

Yes. I used a flattened in those areas but yours sure looks better than my pics. Headliner and sail panels looking great. Thanks for the motivation!

169indy 10-23-2025 04:00 AM

It is the Low Gloss Dark Red Code
71486 1 SC
DK CARMINE RED

also used on Dash.

I assume you did not use just Matador Red flattened>?

This product worked VERY well. Same as Dash TOP not Face of Dash

added Edit: The Liner is SMS from Canby Oregon, Made to order.

I matched 71486 for the dash top, but thought the dash face and all other exposed interior panels were 71591. See my post #97 and let me know if you think I’ve misinterpreted the charts.

I just Read (*PUN Intended) LOL
The 1968 CHEVROLET INTERIOR COLORS (PPG) Index No. 5 (Chevrolet, Corvette, Chevelle, Corvair, Camaro, Chevy II)

FLAT COLORS "O" GLOSS

Used on: Upper Instrument Panel (Exposed Areas aka TOP). Back window Header and Lower corner Lace Escutcheons, Radio grill assy Rear window Defog Grill
INT Color 724, 725, 795, 868

Dark Red 71486
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I do See Where you are reading the "Low Gloss Section." apply to similar areas.

I might have done this wrong on MY Car, I am very confused at this point. & It is mute in my case. But I believe since it was in the Viewing area based on use of the rear view mirror it should be the Zero gloss

But I also had the advantage of some remaining Factory applied Rear Red to compare, but it was in Bad shape.

Your doing AMAZING Work.

We have talked a bit over at CRG & this was not a nit picking conversation. We are fellow RED int Cars & in the minority when viewing a Sea of Black Int car.

Here is my original real package tray area right after the window was pulled for the first time.

BILL! Well there you go. You Nailed it.
In any Case My Car used the 486 back there base on my remaining.

Remind me yours a NOR -vs- my (early) Dec 67' LOS>?

Could be a variety of reasons; Plant, Build Date, Trim level etc.

I get a Variety of Reactions over the RED int at Car shows.

Yes mine is May Norwood.

Here is a great old shot of me in my mom’s 67 in 1974 when I was 13. Dash showing perfectly.

Intermission. A few more old shots of my Mom’s car. Super loaded. GM exec car. Dad bought it from the fleet in 1968 and it was a daily driver thru the mid 70s. Sold, and then totaled one week later sadly. Probably the car that chartered my path in life.

Crush 10-23-2025 09:29 PM

Love seeing the snow tires on it. My older brother‘s first car was a 68 Camaro and he had studded snow tires. In Michigan you could have studs back then and I remember even with studs and some weight in the back that thing was still easy to fishtail in

I’m not where I can work on the car for a bit, so hopefully no one minds my nostalgic detour into first gen Camaros. Here are a few more of them that have blessed me over the years.

Starting with my first car. White 67 with deluxe white. I rebuilt the engine and powerglide when I was 15 and had it ready for my drivers license that winter. Painted it black out in the gravel driveway the next summer. Complete with cool chrome cowl panel and bought and mounted one rally wheel at a time as I could afford them. :)

Check out the options on the green one. It was blue when I had it and later owner did it justice, then sold it at Russo & Steele in Monterey around 2010 or so.

SuperNovaSS 10-25-2025 01:43 PM

The car is looking amazing. In regards to the rear seat, doesn’t the deluxe interior use a narrower rear seat on deluxe interior cars?

I think (pray) that the 67 was narrow, as it had ash trays. And convertibles and fold downs are narrow. 68 coupe had the same seat width for both std and deluxe. Seeing the Knoch deluxe cover fit my std frame I hope I’m ok. Definitely will check quick with the side panels. Thanks.

1967 deluxe interior was the only narrow hardtop. All folddown rear seats were narrow. All convertibles are narrow....Joe

Speaking of seats, got the Al Knoch covers on all the seats now. Pretty happy with the quality and fit of the set. Just have to pick up a few new hardware items like the chrome release handles, and dye the plastic backs, now I see how faded they are.
