----Glad someone mentioned this. Also, look at the broach marks. They are all over the place to my eye...….Bill S

Looks more like an engraving with a cutter than a stamping on the trans.

IMO, I don't think the car has it's original drivetrain.

The VIN tag is noticeably smoother paint. It was painted by Chevrolet and I don't think they used the suede finish - this was the only part eligible, IIRC. This picture is a bit extreme in the contrast, but it was handy.....

Nope.

One of my buds junked a Z11 way back and kept the title and tags. The backside of the tag is semi-gloss black; the top side is completely coated in suede. Definitely coated off the car. Also, have a blue tag from a very early Norwood car. Glossy black backside, blue suede topside. Van Nuys appears to have painted all of them black.

Have dozens of VIN tag photos that depict the same thing.

Interesting. I took pics of VINs at MCACN Vintage and those tags clearly were two different textures.
The tag I posted above has the original rivets, btw.

Of course. Fisher painted the dash a day or two prior to the tag being processed by Chevrolet. Different process, paint mix, people. The tag was initially painted semi-gloss black; then the topside sprayed with suede dash paint.

You can't determine anything by looking at a tag installed in the dash.
