Yep, heavy stock glossy paper. Looks like it was meant to be folded in half.

Ii went back and checked my notes on the Blue car pictured. It's a 10C build, if I have the right car. That would be too early for a factory stripe. I still like it!

Thee more interesting thing I found was in the printing of the Finger Tip Facts. The January revision does not include D88 but does capture the other D96, D90 & D91 additions. The D88 looks to be cancelled 2-28, one would have thought it would be listed there. Looking at the second printings of the Chevrolet sales Lit, I see the D96 and D90 pictures as well, but no mention of D88.

BIG, you mentioned the two cars you seen were both decals. I know nothing about decals, is something like this easy to replicate? The close up Dave just posted, stripes don't look even in size. Wonder what the promotional ones looked like.

Can you imagine the time to stencil and paint this? Not happening on the line or at the dealer and making a profit. Decal. Same type as what you find on a D90 Camaro from the front wheels back. The ones I remember were in "poor" condition. Poor as in peeling. I don't think they were reproduced. This was in the 80's and the cars were drivers / unrestored. I wish I had more to go on, pictures ect. I saw both cars a grand total of once. They were the great white buffalos then as much as they would be today. It was a find for me being into options and accessories, I'm quite sure it wasn't a big deal to anyone else at the time. Both were seen at different times/ years at Carney's drive in. As a long time striper, from the photos on this thread, they would have been painted. The stripes wrap into the grille area in a way that that couldn't have been done with decals. It's only in the last few years that we can wrap vinyl into complex areas with the new stretchable, colorfast materials that are now available.

Re: Rainbow-striped Camaro

The grille area, on the cars I remember , was body color. The color bands were just like a early D90 stripe minus the break for the emblem.

Decals or paint, IMHO, if they were real.....they were dealer applied for promos only. You can bet as to why it wasn't cost efficient either way.

Ever wonder why you see so many 68's with horrible stripes? One of my favorite quotes is..."They never make them too skinny do they?" .
