Got some Mosers from Summit Racing on Monday, all cleaned up and going in today, no secondary damage..

This would have never happened to a F#%D 9"...

Whew! Good news Mikey. No expert on metals, but looks like there may have been a manufacturing anomaly of the axle at the fracture point. How does it look to you?

Dinitely looks like an old fatigue related stress crack was propagating there Mike. Appears that you've been hard on that beast!

That's actually the point there "supposed" to break. After approx 180` of twist. An old race trick is to paint/scribe a line down the shaft to monitor how much twist is going on after a year of abuse. They will twist over time, esp with slicks. Most I've seen fail twards the splines. Haven't seen one like that in a while.

You'll like the Mosers, I'd be putting in new bearings now too. Those old junk axles like to tear them up. Good studs as well.

Good to hear everything else is tip top!!

Interesting notion Steve. Makes sense. So, after your scribed/painted line rotates 180 deg its time for a new axle?

Yuup!

It used to be a more prevelent concept before the days of high dollar axle shafts. I guess today you'd see it more on dirt track cars and stockers. I used it recently when making a new drive shaft, for a extended trailing arm,on a custom bike. Snap snap snap...glad that bike dissapeared!

Big, I put new Moser studs in the new axle's. The bearings look good during tear down. Most of the metal was in the left tube.
I was a dope for not putting in new axels along time ago.

Mike
