For #2, I ruined a set of jet hot coated headers years ago because I did not heed their warning. For manifolds though, there's a lot more mass, so likely won't develop the hot spots associated with thin wall headers and may be okay. IMO, either put in the extra effort or roll the dice...I prefer not to roll the dice.
